The upcoming Obi-Wan TV show is bringing in a lot of big names from the Star Wars universe, with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen both reprising their roles for the first time since the prequels. Another iconic role will be filled by a newcomer, with child actor Grant Feely appearing as a young Luke Skywalker. Luckily for Feely, he's got the original Luke Skywalker on his side.

Feely briefly appeared in the first Obi Wan trailer in his role as a young Luke, being watched over by McGregor's Obi-Wan on Tatooine. A subsequent report by The Hollywood Reporter named the young actor as Grant Feely, whose only prior credit is a single episode of Creepshow, according to IMDb.

Shortly after the casting was revealed, original Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill took to Twitter to officially bestow his blessings on the new actor, saying he "looks like a perfect Luke Skywalker."

This is the first time Luke Skywalker has been recast for a live-action Star Wars production, with Hamill reprising his role to play an older Luke for the sequel trilogy, and playing a younger Luke in episodes of The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett via a somewhat controversial CGI body double.

As Obi-Wan takes place when Luke Skywalker is around 10 years old, the casting of Grant Feely makes a lot more sense than using the CGI trick again. You'll be able to catch the early days of Luke Skywalker when the series premieres on Disney+ on May 24, the 45-year anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope's theatrical release.
