Mario Tennis Aces Update On Nintendo Switch Will Nerf Bowser Jr.

Turns out having a helicopter gives you an unfair tennis advantage.

One of the most controversial competitors in Mario Tennis Aces is going to be nerfed later this week. Bowser Jr., whose extra long reach makes him a little too good at reaching difficult shots, has been criticized as unbalanced among the community and pro players alike. That will start to be addressed this Thursday with a new patch that, among other things, reigns in Bowser Jr.'s power level.

According to the patch notes, version 1.1.2 will adjust how fast Bowser Jr. can move when charging a shot and lower the angle to hit the ball back. Those changes may seem minor, but the notes are sure to point out that further balance changes are coming to Bowser Jr. before the August tournament. Rebalancing before a major tournament is likely a priority, since he's dominated tournaments and even led to finalists criticizing the game publicly.

Naturally, Bowser Jr. isn't the only target of the patch. All characters will have their ranges adjusted, along with tweaks to the amount of energy needed for Trick Shots. This will shorten the time to recover energy and reduce how much energy is used for a late Trick Shot. A returned serve will be unable to inflict a Body Shot until it bounces once.

The patch will also add a ranking display based on your Rating, which will start with the August tournament. The Rating won't be shown on the Total Points Ranking Board, and your Rating will change on a monthly basis based on your previous month's results.
