Marc Ecko takes it to the streets

Getting Up Bloc Party to promote the fashion designer's controversial graffiti game.

Fashion mogul and newly minted game producer Marc Ecko announced plans for the Marc Ecko's Getting Up Bloc Party to promote his upcoming action game Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. The graffiti-as-art-oriented street party will be held on August 24 from noon to 8:00pm on New York City's 22nd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues. The Bloc Party will host graffiti demonstrations on replica subway cars and will include live DJ and other music performances.

The announcement comes amid pressure from crusading New York City Council Member Peter F. Vallone, who claims that the game will promote crime and vandalism among the city's youth. In the game, players must build the reputation of an underground graffiti artist by spraying and maintaining tags across the city while fending off the police and sanitation workers. Vallone recently called upon Atari to cancel production of the game.

Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure is set for a fall release on the PS2, Xbox, PC, and mobile phones. For more on the game, check out Marc Ecko's demonstration from this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.
