Vampires are a hearty lot, with few known weaknesses aside from sunlight and a stake through the heart. As it turns out, not even a series of Uwe Boll-directed film adaptations can permanently destroy the undead bloodsuckers.

With luck, WayForward will be able to capture the tasteful and nuanced character design for which the series is known.

Majesco Entertainment today announced that its undead femme fatale BloodRayne is making a comeback this summer in a new downloadable game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. BloodRayne: Betrayal will be a 2D side-scrolling action game, with the titular half-vampire warrior and a new ally working together to thwart the plans of a group of evil vampires.

The game is in development at WayForward Technologies. It will be the first Xbox 360 or PS3 title for the studio, which has to date specialized in Wii and handheld games. The developer has worked on a number of recognizable and critically well-received titles, including Contra 4, Batman: The Brave and the Bold - The Videogame, A Boy and His Blob, and Lit.
