Magic: The Gathering Online goes online

Wizards of the Coast has announced the launch of Magic: The Gathering Online, the online version of its popular collectible-card strategy game. A boxed version of the game is now available in stores for an approximate retail price of $15, or the game can be downloaded for free here at GameSpot.

Magic: The Gathering Online lets players compete against other players online using decks of virtual cards based on cards from the physical version of the game. Instead of charging a subscription fee like many online games, Magic Online will let players purchase decks of virtual cards to use while playing. The game will launch with approximately 1,500 different cards, and more cards will be added in the future. The game will also include a free trial feature that gives players access to five decks of cards, a tutorial, and practice rooms where they can play against other players online.
