Madden NFL 24 has officially been revealed, and one of the biggest changes is the long-awaited addition of cross-play. Playing Madden across platforms has felt overdue for a while now, and thankfully players won't have to wait much longer. When the game releases on August 18, it'll have cross-play on day one, albeit with a few caveats. Here's what you need to know.

Madden 24 cross-play explained: What platforms and game modes use cross-play?

Madden 24 cross-play is available on all current-gen versions of the game. This means Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC, which achieves version parity for the first time this generation--previous PC versions were running the Xbox One/PS4 versions of Madden.

For the first time in Madden history, players can take on opponents across different platforms.

Players on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC can face opponents on other platforms in Ultimate Team, Head to Head, and Superstar Showdown, a new mode that plays like an evolved version of The Yard. Yes, that means Franchise players won't be able to enjoy the benefits of cross-play just yet. However, the studio has confirmed with GameSpot that Franchise cross-play is in the works and may even arrive before Madden NFL 25 launches.

Speaking with GameSpot, EA Tiburon senior design director Connor Dougan had this to say on the possibility of Franchise cross-play:

We're super pumped about cross-play coming to Madden. It was a huge undertaking for us. And so we want to make sure that when we release cross-play in Franchise mode, we do it right. And so, no, it will not be in Madden at launch, but we have people working on it now. And we hope to release it at some point in the future, before next year's Madden, we hope. No guarantees, but that's what we hope.

Whether cross-play comes to Franchise before August 2024 or some time after, it does sound like it'll be in the series going forward eventually, so players can look forward to that change, which should make recruiting for league play a lot easier, among other benefits players may enjoy.
