Madden 17 Tuning Update Out Now on PS4 and Xbox One, Here's What It Does

A bigger title update is coming later.

Comments

EA Sports has released a new tuning update for Madden NFL 17 that makes a series of changes to how the professional football game plays, though none sound all that significant.

As detailed in this Facebook post, the changes include things like reducing the likelihood of "organic" ball knock-outs after made catches. The update also reduces the chances of broken tackles for ball-carriers, while it also should make kicking somewhat easier in the snow, as the kick meter power penalty has been reduced. Also, the update makes a "variety of tuning changes" to help the defensive side protect against run plays better. You can see the full patch notes below.

This tuning update is available for Madden NFL 17's PS4 and Xbox One versions, but is apparently not available on PS3 and Xbox 360. Madden creative director Rex Dickson confirmed on Twitter that a larger title update is coming later. Among other things, the title update will apparently remove the ability to take a delay of game penalty in a situation where a team knows it will miss a field goal.

Madden NFL 17 September 23 Tuning Update Changes:

  • Increased interception chances for user-controlled defenders in multiplayer catches
  • Reduced kick meter accuracy penalty under rain conditions.
  • Reduced kick meter power penalty under snow conditions.
  • Increased wait-time for Pass Rushers to play shed moves when pass rushing (Reduced "Insta-Sheds")
  • A variety of tuning changes to help defense be more effective vs. running plays
  • Reduced frequency of organic knock-outs after catches
  • Reduced chances of broken tackles for ball carriers
  • Slightly reduced throw-out-of-sack fumble chances
  • Reduced chance for pass-blocking RBs to Cut-Block
  • Reduce chance for success when pass-blocking RB's Cut-Block

In other Madden NFL 17 news, a newly discovered glitch is one of the weirdest we've seen so far. You can check out this post to see other Madden NFL 17 glitches, including one where a field goal attempt led to an instant, erroneous touchdown for the other team.

Madden NFL 17 received a score of 8 in GameSpot's review. "If EA Tiburon's goal with Madden 17 was to build upon the solid foundation set by the last two iterations, the studio mostly succeeded by fine tuning its production values on and off the field while also focusing on its strengths in its Ultimate Team and Franchise," reviewer Miguel Concepcion said.
