The sun sets in the west, but that's not always the case in Madden NFL 17.

EA Sports has confirmed that the newest entry in what's billed as the most authentic football game series, has the sun set on the wrong side of the horizon in one stadium.

This was brought to Kotaku's attention by a Madden player who noticed that the sun appeared to set in the east instead of the west at the Los Angeles Rams' home stadium, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. EA Sports confirmed that it made a mistake, though it might not be fixed until next year's game.

"It's a testament to our fans that they know everything about their favorite teams, including where the sun sets in their stadium," a spokesperson said. "Our art team is investigating the issue, and working on correcting it for future editions of Madden NFL. In the meantime, we hope players enjoy this sneak peek into what the world might look like if the Earth rotated in the opposite direction."

The fan who brought this issue to light also believes EA Sports might have gotten the sun placement wrong in other stadiums, including AT&T Stadium and Arrowhead Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs respectively.

In January this year, the NFL approved the St. Louis Rams' plan to move to Los Angeles, which saw the team get its new Los Angeles Rams name. As of January, EA Sports said it was "still working through details for the in-game stadium."

The Los Angeles Coliseum is also the home of the USC Trojans, which showed up in EA's previous NCAA Football series. This could have given EA some foundation to build Madden NFL 17's version on.

Despite the problem with the sun, Madden NFL 17 enjoyed mostly positive review scores. EA has not announced how well it's sold, but it was the No. 1 best-selling game in the US for August, according to NPD data.
