Lupin III: The First Gets Another New Trailer

The animated CG movie is the latest entry in the long-running Lupin III series and is expected before the end of the year.

It's a big week for Lupin III fans. Earlier in the week, GKIDS tweeted out the first teaser for the upcoming English dub of Lupin III: The First, and now, another teaser has arrived. Check it out below.

Revered indie animation film distributor GKIDS has tweeted an English dub trailer for the 3D computer-graphics anime Lupin III: The First. The comedy heist movie was first released in Japanese theaters back in December 2019, and the film is the latest adaptation for the long-running manga--which started way back in 1967. Check out the teaser below.

The new movie's plot is classic Lupin: In '60s France, the selfish, sleazy detective has to evade police while trying to retrieve the mysterious Bresson Diary--a booby-trapped book--and an amulet that is rumored to contain a key, which, according to legends is either a literal one to a fortune or a metaphorical one to understanding the diary. In addition to the police, Lupin must also evade Nazi loyalists who want the artifacts for themselves, competing treasure hunters, and the cops who want to return the items to their rightful owners.

A release date has not yet been given for the English dub version of Lupin III: The First. It is "coming soon" and expected to be out before the end of the year.

The movie comes from a screenplay by Takashi Yamazaki and was directed by Takashi Yamazaki (Dragon Quest: Your Story).

Studio Ghibli, whose distribution rights are also handled by GKIDS, recently launched its entire library (including modern classics like Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, etc.) on HBO Max.
