Lumines Could Come to PS4, Xbox One, and PC

"Lumines will continue to evolve."

A new Lumines game, titled Puzzle & Music, is coming to mobile tomorrow, and console owners longing for a new game in the series could see one eventually. Lumines creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi took part in a Reddit AMA, where he was asked if he had any plans for bringing it to PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

"Some day!" Mizuguchi exclaimed. "Lumines will continue to evolve."

Mizuguchi also talked about Puzzle & Music. He said that although the hardware is different than the original game's PSP, "the gameplay feel should be the same."

"It might take a bit of time to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, you should be able to play it like the old days," he explained. "One of the bigger differences is the landscape-portrait change, but it's a part of the game that I'd love for you to enjoy."

Another fan asked if the game would support external controllers on mobile devices to which Mizuguchi replied, "We are aware that the demand for this kind of thing is really high. We don’t have concrete plans yet, and we designed the new mobile Lumines around the concept of touch controls, so we believe it is enjoyable without an external controller. Please give it a shot and let us know!"

The last Lumines game was Lumines: Electronic Symphony, which released for the Vita in 2012. The last game in the series to come to console was Lumines Supernova on PS3 in 2008.

Mizuguchi also created the Dreamcast classic Rez and is working on a new puzzle game called 18 and the upcoming Rez Infinite for PS4 and PlayStaiton VR. One fan asked if any new challenges have presented themselves since development started for Rez in virtual reality, and Mizuguchi said, "Oh, tons."

"Creating things for VR is almost totally new compared to non-VR," he continued. "For example, in the past, no matter how big your imagination was, you had to confine your end result into a rectangular view frame of some sort. Now in VR you don't have that constraint at all, which is huge. I think that is an enormous challenge that many creators all over the world are tackling, and I expect something really exciting to come out in a few years from now."

Rez Infinite releases on October 13.

I love the series and I really want a version with buttons. I can't imagine playing it on a mobile, I doubt it can be as precise and fast is it needs to be in later stages (1+ hour in a run). I'll try the mobile version, but I'm pretty sure I'll miss the buttons

I hope so. That was the first game I got for my PSP and I loved it.

I was not aware that this was a series... I remember playing it on the original PSP and being quite happy with it (It was really the only game on that system worth much).

I would absolutely play a new console Lumines.

I'll give this mobile one a try, but it definitely strikes me as a game that would be far better with buttons/sticks versus a touch screen.
