"We don't normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher's performance as Princess or General Leia Organa," reads a line from the official statement.

The statement goes on: "Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars."

A report today claimed that Lucasfilm was potentially interested in resurrecting Carrie's Leia character for appearances in future Star Wars films. Fisher died last month at the age of 60.

According to a previous report, Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow had a meeting with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy this week to "discuss options" regarding the Leia character. Leia was reportedly going to have a larger role in Episode IX, more significant than her part in this year's Episode VIII, which finished filming before Fisher passed away.

Lucasfilm digitally resurrected the late actor Peter Cushing for a part in Rogue One as Grand Moff Tarkin. Additionally, Lucasfilm created a digital version of Carrie Fisher's Leia for the end of the movie.
