Sean Fontenot, a seventeen-year-old from Los Alamitos, Calif., won US$10,000 after competing in a two-hour game of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 held at Ruby Skye in San Francisco on the eve of the 2000 X-Games. Twelve contestants were flown in from around the world to the X-Games, where they competed and met the "birdman" himself, Tony Hawk. Fontenot's score of 3,463,009 points was enough to give him the crown, as well as enough cash to buy every console on the market today.

The final rankings were as follows:

  • Sean Fontenot - Los Alamitos, Calif.
  • Benjamin Addair III - Surfside Beach, SC
  • Chris Cramer - Franklin, Ohio
  • Florian Preis - Nienburg, Germany
  • James Smith Redcar, United Kingdom
  • Drew Cauthen - Carthage, Miss.
  • Thomas Rucker - Brentwood, NY
  • Hector Rodriguez- Rowland Heights, Calif.
  • Noe Valladolid - Long Beach, Calif.
  • Matthew Hand - Canberra, Australia
  • Bojan Jovanovic - Sycamore, Ill.
  • Oliver Meynard - Mornant, France
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 will be released for the PlayStation on September 19 for $39.99, while the Dreamcast version will launch on November 1 for $44.99.
