Lord Of The Rings: Gollum Studio Shares New Details
Fat ugly hobbitses are the least of his troubles.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum isn't slated to release until sometime in 2021, but developer Daedalic Entertainment has revealed more details on the game. The new revelations include how it treats the look of the iconic character, game mechanics, and even more characters from the deep bench of Middle-earth lore.
According to a profile in Edge Magazine (via US Gamer), Daedalic is going its own direction for the look of Gollum, saying it isn't modeled after Andy Serkis' depiction in the Peter Jackson trilogies. It will take place years before the events of the Lord of the Rings novels, which means pulling in new side-characters like Thranduil, the father of the Fellowship member Legolas.
Gollum is described as a stealth-action game, letting you sneak around Middle-earth locations like Barad-Dur, the dark fortress in the heart of Mordor. Ringwraiths will feature prominently, so presumably you'll need to evade them as they chase the ring. Art director Mathias Fischer curiously said Daedalic's versions are "less cool" than the movie depiction, but indicated he's looking to offer a new take on the creatures.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is slated for a 2021 release on next-generation consoles, which includes Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
