Lord Of The Rings Gollum Game To Expand Tolkien's Story

Filthy hobbitses!

A new narrative action-adventure game will take a deeper look at the story of Gollum, the pitiful creature at the heart of the Lord of the Rings series. The Lord of the Rings - Gollum from Daedalic Entertainment is slated for 2021, with platforms to be determined.

The story will follow the life of Smeagol, aka Gollum, as he finds and becomes corrupted by the One Ring. It will follow the events of the novels, so we all know where he ends up (spoilers: in a volcano), but the story promises "new events and details related to Gollum's journey." Middle-earth Enterprises, the rights-holder for Tolkein's LOTR series, said in the announcement that this game will be "lore-centric" and "uniquely matched to the complex, deeply-nuanced world."

Now Playing: The History Of Lord Of The Rings Video Games

Right now it's due on PC, as well as whichever console platforms are "relevant" at the time. This appears to be the first of several planned partnerships between Daedalic and Middle-earth Enterprises.

"We tell Gollum's story from a perspective never seen before, in any storytelling medium, all the while staying true to the legendary books of J.R.R. Tolkien," says Daedalic CEO Carsten Fichtelmann in the announcement. "At a time when the games industry is undergoing structural changes and seeing new business models evolve, we are excited to realize a huge new production based on a story that has stayed fresh and relevant for more than 60 years."

Would love to see the ring causing a twisting of his perspective and that the game leans into it, twisting our perception of right/wrong and the story we were told to begin with. Make me believe that the Hobbitses are indeed filthy!

@Thanatos2k: Well considering both you and Gollum have that in common maybe you'll find some enjoyment out of it lol.

Ill play it, but it better involve some weird magical twist where he doesnt die in the volcano and becomes a super power in the life beyond.

I am amused, skeptical, and deeply curious all at the same time.

@Fartman7998: Same here, I think I would be more at ease if Monolith or Telltale was involved with this game, Daedalic is not very comforting to me.
