LodgeNet Nabs Patent
LodgeNet gets the patent on broadband delivery of video games in hotels over proprietary LAN network.
LodgeNet Entertainment Corporation announced Thursday that it has received a patent for its interactive video game delivery system.
In late 1993, the company introduced network-based video game delivery to the lodging industry using Super Nintendo games. It now provides the games in over 80 percent of the 450,000 hotel rooms that are set up for computer gaming. It allows guests to play the games without needing a console in each room.
"We believe this technology has applications far beyond its current use for the delivery of video games in the lodging environment," said Tim C. Flynn, President and CEO of LodgeNet. "We also believe that our technology will be useful in the delivery of other interactive entertainment and information services over broadband video distribution networks."
