Lips: Greatest Hits Hands-On

This time around, Lips developer Inis has added a few new features to its signature karaoke game, including avatar integration to let your digital persona join in with midsong gestures. There's also a new score multiplier that ensures your score will go through the roof while hitting all the right notes. There's currently no limit to how many multipliers you can get as long as you're hitting the notes, and we were told that some players have chalked up 100-times multipliers. Those with some professional singing skills will be pleased to know that they'll be rewarded for successfully improvising a song. Performing a vibrato effect on bonus notes is one such way to score these extra points. Inis has also fixed the bug that let you cheat your way through Lips songs by blowing into the mic.

So far, nine songs have been announced for Greatest Hits. As the name implies, all of the songs are certified number-one hits somewhere around the globe, and the songs revealed thus far are "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, "Disturbia" by Rihanna, "U Can't Touch This" by MC Hammer, "More Than Words" by Extreme, "Apologize" by Timbaland featuring OneRepublic, "Karma Chameleon" by Culture Club, "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye, "Oh, Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison, and "Ready, Set, Go" by Germany's Tokio Hotel.

There's still no online versus multiplayer, but two players can again compete in offline songs. Up to six players can be registered at a time to play multiplayer, and up to four Xbox Live accounts can now be signed in simultaneously, which means that the second player can now earn achievement points while competing.
