Link's Awakening Comes With A Free Pin Set At Target

Here's everything you should know about pre-ordering Link's Awakening.

Earlier this year, Nintendo announced a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is coming to Nintendo Switch. We finally got a release date during Nintendo's E3 2019 press conference: Link's Awakening will release on September 20, 2019.

The Link's Awakening remake looks stunning, with vibrant, colorful visuals that retain the top-down perspective of the original. The last time Nintendo released a new game inspired by a classic Zelda adventure--looking at you, A Link Between Worlds--the end result was fantastic, so we have high hopes for Link's Awakening, which will be the first top-down Zelda title on the Switch.

Now Playing: Zelda: Link's Awakening Is As Good As We Remember | PAX West 2019

No Caption Provided

If you've never played Link's Awakening, which initially released in 1993 for the Game Boy, you're in for even more of a treat, as you'll get to experience the story for the first time. As you might have gathered from the announcement trailer (which you can watch above), the story begins with Link sailing into a giant storm that leaves him shipwrecked on Koholint Island, which is guarded by a giant sleeping Wind Fish. Throughout the course of the game, you'll control Link as he solves puzzles and fights monsters to gather eight magical instruments that will wake the Wind Fish, the only one who can help him leave the island. Link's Awakening shakes up the traditional Zelda formula a bit, as it doesn't involve Princess Zelda, the Triforce, or Hyrule at all.

Link's Awakening is already available to pre-order at a few different retailers--check out everything you need to know about securing your copy below.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening pre-order bonus

No Caption Provided

GameStop is offering a double-sided poster featuring art from Link's Awakening with pre-orders of the game--and as usual with these types of bonuses, supplies are limited.

Meanwhile, Target just announced customers will get a free Zelda pin set when they buy Link's Awakening. The weekly ad (from which we screenshotted the above image) says the free pin set will be available at Target's Electronics counter, which suggests you'll need to buy the game at the store (or bring in your game and pre-order receipt).

Pre-order The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening standard edition

The standard edition comes with just the base game and will cost you $60. You can pre-order it at the following retailers:

Link's Awakening is also eligible for Nintendo's voucher program, where you could buy two game vouchers for $100 and then use them to redeem for two games. If you choose full-price games, you'll save up to $20. You can no longer buy the vouchers, but if you already bought them, you can use one on Link's Awakening, if you want. See the full list of eligible titles at Nintendo.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Dreamer edition

No Caption Provided

Link's Awakening is also getting a Dreamer edition that will include the base game and a hardcover book with concept art. It's available to pre-order now for $70, only $10 more than the standard edition. Last time we checked, it was sold out at all major retailers.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Limited edition

No Caption Provided

A gorgeous limited edition of Link's Awakening has been announced for Europe/Australia, but there's no word on it coming to America so far. It comes with a Game Boy-themed steelbook and 120-page artbook in addition to the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening amiibo

No Caption Provided

New amiibo figures were also announced during E3, and one of them you'll be able to purchase is Link in his Link's Awakening style. This little guy will release on September 20, the same day as the game, and it'll cost you $16.

So... the guide is to just link to stores that have it up? A part of me is asking why the **** this article is even up, but the same part of me questions why the pre-order links are weird and I'm assuming you make commission from them. The leftover part of me is kind of happy to see this in a weird way? Simple... you want the game, preorder the game. None of this bullshit with a spreadsheet to work out what edition of the game you want that doesn't come with everything regardless of how much they charge for each, X retailer gets Y pre-order exclusive bonus, and seven different release dates based on what you're subscribed to and what edition you buy. Simple shit. 'Tis beautiful.

Never played this game, but I would have preferred a remake for A Link to the Past. Seems Nintendo saw how charming this type of game looked with Tunic and decided that a top down remake would look pretty nice in today's graphics.

Either way, never played it, so if/when I get a Switch, I'll probably pick it up.

I'm thinking this will have new content and not be a straight port. It should include all of the DX extras, as well as more new content. The question is how much more new content.

If this is a really basic remake and doesn't even include DX content, then it shouldn't be any more than $20.

@Ovirew: It's clearly a complete remake that had to be coded from scratch....I'm find with it being full price. If you don't agree vote with your wallet.

@xavroche: I mean true, it takes work to make this possible. But there's got to be more to this game you know? There's got to be something. And I can understand if there's no way to print camera pictures like in the GBC game, but the absence of the extra dungeon and whatnot would be strange. It would be odd for Nintendo to take this opportunity to go back to Koholint Island and not add more to the game.

The 1993 release was on the Game Boy, not the Game Boy Colour. The GBC version came out in 1998

No. It was 1993 on the GameBoy and 1998 on GameBoy Color.

Looks friggin' cute but... 60$.

I hate to pay full price for remakes/remasters or whatever...

I mean, no matter how nice it looks, it CAN'T be quite as good as Breath of the Wild for the same price...

@silv3rst0rm: Breath of the Wild isnt even the best Zelda game though. Come to think of it, I might actually like the original Links Awakening just as much as BotW. If this remake adds much more to the table, it will overtake it.

@silv3rst0rm: Agreed. I get that it's a Switch game, not 3DS, but come on. This shouldn't be more than $40.
