Life Is Strange TV Series Still Happening, Adds Shawn Mendes To Oversee Music

The Life is Strange TV show from Godzilla and Detective Pikachu studio Legendary that was announced in 2016 is still in the works, and it's picking up steam.

Shawn Mendes, the three-time Grammy Award nominated singer and songwriter behind hits like "Stitches" and "Treat You Better," has signed on to oversee the music for the show. Andrew Gertler, Mendes' manager and partner at their production company Permanent Content, will also oversee the music.

Legendary Television and dj2 Entertainment are producing the show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anonymous Content has joined the production as a co-producer. The company is behind shows like True Detective and 13 Reasons Why.

There is no word yet on a cast, director, and plot details for the Life is Strange TV series.

Legendary's Cory Lanier will oversee the project with Greg Siegel, senior VP of development of production for the studio.

"Life is Strange is one of those rare properties that combines incredibly developed characters and storylines with deeply engaging gameplay," Siegel said. "It lends itself perfectly to live-action imaginings. We couldn't be more excited to partner with Square Enix, Dontnod Entertainment and dj2 to bring the world of Arcadia Bay to life in an exciting new way."

"We're proud and excited to be working alongside Legendary to realise a new version of Arcadia Bay and Blackwell Academy complete with our rich cast of realistic, believable characters and memorable events," Square Enix's Jon Brooke said.

The Life is Strange video game series continues on September 10 with the launch of Life is Strange: True Colors. A remastered collection of Life Is Strange and Life Is Strange: Before the Storm is in the works, but has been delayed to 2022.
