Lego Batman 2 tops UK chart for third consecutive week

Lego Batman 2 fends off London 2012 to secure top spot for third consecutive week; Modern Warfare 3 reenters the top 10.

25 Comments

Three weeks on since its release, Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes has held its place on the top of the UK Games Chart. Not only that, but comic book rival The Amazing Spider-Man has fallen one place to third. An 81 percent increase in sales saw London 2012 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games replace Spider-Man in second place as the Olympics draw another week closer.

Modern Warfare 3 rose 26 places last week.
Modern Warfare 3 rose 26 places last week.

Spec Ops: The Line drops a single place to fourth in its second week of release, while new entry Dead Island Game of the Year Edition hits the chart at five thanks to the addition of all previously released digital content. The Dawnguard expansion supports The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's place in the top 10 at six, where it is followed by chart regular FIFA 12. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's sales grew 193 percent, gaining the shooter 26 places in the chart and landing it back in the top 10 at eight. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier falls three places to nine with FIFA Street scoring the final top 10 spot.

Two other new releases hit the chart this week: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy lands at 19, and new MMO game The Secret World scrapes into the top 40 at 38. Despite UK release on the Wii this week, Beat the Beat failed to chart.

This Friday's new releases include PS3 exclusive Rainbow Moon (delayed from last week), movie spin-off Ice Age: Continental Drift - Arctic Games, and Parisian rhythm adventure Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure for the 3DS.

The UK All-Formats chart for the week ending 7th July:

1. Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes
2. London 2012
3. The Amazing Spider-Man
4. Spec Ops: The Line
5. Dead Island GOTY Edition
6. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
7. FIFA 12
8. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
9. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
10. FIFA Street

@Wizallah....I think you take yourself a bit too serious this is suppose to be fun and the setting is congruent with the cartoon lego designs...And to think you could make Blizzard look like childs play is a inflated perception of self...Blizzard obviously knows what there doing

Lego Batman 2 is a lot of fun. While playing I kept thinking to myself, this would be awesome if the lego graphics were replaced with Arkham City's graphics.

@Wizallah Hey, do a search for a dead game called "Awakened" the company was with Midway games before they went broke, they were going to make a game called "Hero" but too many mortal kombat games later and it was too late to save midway, it was ironic that they had a killer triple platinum game concept only to realize it too late to save the company. Part of the Superhero game curse...

@Wizallah THEY_WILL_NEVER_EVER_UNDERSTAND_THAT! The stupid thing is that if they ever did understand that, it would make their company overnight billionaires. They are to blind to see that though... I really wish i could control a company, i would make Blizzard look like child's play...

I've never really played much LEGO games before. I played demos of them and played them at family gatherings and enjoyed them, but never bought them.

LEGO Batman 2 is the first I've purchased, and I'm glad I have. There are a few problems - occasional dodgy camera angles, some texturing issues, Superman is difficult to navigate with, and the AI is just unfathomably stupid. But, I have a lot of fun.

With all these incredibly serious games on the market (both gameplay and story-wise), it's nice to just play a light-hearted game that doesn't take itself too seriously.

You know, I enjoy most of the Lego games, but really didn't care much for 'Lego Batman'. I think what did it was having to listen to Danny Elfman's HORRIBLE score over and over again (My son likes it.). At any rate, I'm on the fence with 'Lego Batman 2'. Is it really worth it? More importantly, does it still contain Elfman's score? I think that would be a deal breaker for me. Might be sad, but true.

@CptRexKramer

Wait, isn't Danny Elfman's score for the batman movies considered one of the best movie scores of all time?

@SythisTaru

One of the best scores of all time? No. Not even in the ballpark. It may be one of Elfman's best scores (For the record, I'm a huge collector of film scores, and I am not a fan of his work at all.), but by no means is it one of the best of all time. Personally, I think the only listenable score he wrote was 'Midnight Run'. Mind you, this is all personal opinion. If you enjoy his work, more power to ya. ;)

@Vastano Oh, that's a damn shame. It's a bummer that they didn't use any music from other composers of the animated Batman series like Shirley Walker or Kristopher Carter. Oh well.
