Legends Of Tomorrow Season 5 Finale: Main Character Leaves Show

With the end of DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 on The CW, the long-running series has said goodbye to one of its main cast members. The move comes after series regulars Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford left earlier in the season. Routh was one of only two cast members from Season 1 that was still on the series, alongside Caity Lotz.

The final episode of the fifth season saw Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) announce she was leaving the group of Legends, marking the end of her time on the Waverider. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Phil Klemmer explained that the departure was in the works for quite a while."We knew this would be Maisie's [final season] well over a year ago, which is great because it allows you to have everything be working toward that point of separation," he said

As for whose idea it was for the Charlie character to say goodbye, it sounds like Richardson-Sellers was ready to move on. "Maisie's got a career she's pursuing now. We would love to have her back at any occasion, but at the same time we're just thrilled to see what she has planned for herself as a filmmaker," Klemmer explained. "We've been talking to her for years now about what her sort of five-year plan was, and she has more direction and ambition as a twenty-something than certainly I do as a forty-something. She's like a force to be reckoned with, and we just wanted to not stand in the way of all the things she wants to do."

Ultimately, just because the actress has left the show it doesn't mean she won't pop up again someday. Klemmer admitted, "We'd love to have her back for a little check-in, but also we're super-excited just to see where she goes with her career."

Legends of Tomorrow has been renewed for Season 6 and will return to The CW in 2021.
