Sega.com and Oceanus Communications have today announced the official launch of Legacy Online for the PC. Legacy Online, which is free to download but costs $9.95 a month to play, is a massively multiplayer online economic strategy game in which players must attempt to build large capitalist empires by meeting the needs of the virtual citizens that inhabit the various planets in the game.

"There is money to be made--our richest player has earned over 2 trillion dollars," said Jason Kinne, senior producer at Sega.com. "With more than 30 million virtual citizens on Planet Trinity, there is a huge market for new business owners to profit from, serve, or exploit."

Legacy Online has been in beta testing for some time, and new features implemented in the game as a result of feedback from testers include an improved in-game tutorial, a favorites-style building shortcut system, and a streamlined system for managing supply chains of goods and services. New features will continue to be added to the game, not the least of which will be a competition planet on which online tournaments can be held.

The first monthlong Legacy Online tournament will commence on July 14, and the winner will earn the right to name the new planet. For more information on Legacy Online, check out our previous coverage of the game.
