Conventional wisdom may dictate that zombies aren't keen on sending out skirmishers. After all, once one zombie begins running amok, it's only a short matter of time before throngs of brain eaters are everywhere, infesting the local shopping malls, parks, and underground railway stations.

Be that as it may, Valve revealed today that it would be committing a twofold violation of that wisdom with Left 4 Dead. With the game maker confirming that a playable trial was on the way last month, Valve said today that those who preorder the game will not only receive a 10 percent discount on Turtle Rock Studios' survival horror shooter, but also gain advance access to the prerelease sampler for the zombie-slaying shooter.

Those who preorder the PC edition through Steam and the Xbox 360 game at participating retailers can jump into the Left 4 Dead demo beginning on November 6. The demo will be released for mass (brain) consumption on November 11. According to Valve, the demo will be available up until the game's retail release on November 18.

As noted by Newell last month, the demo includes both single-player and online co-op modes that support up to four players. At that time, the noted game designer said that players would be fending off the undead hordes in a hospital setting.
