Latest Suicide Squad Trailer Is Packed With New, Crazy Footage

James Gunn's highly anticipated DC movie hits theaters and HBO Max in August.

Update: the new Suicide Squad trailer has now been released. At first it looked like the trailer had leaked, with the video labelled "Early Access Trailer Do Not Share." But as various cast members did just that, it became clear that this wasn't a leak at all but part of the movie's marketing. Director James Gunn even got in on act on Twitter, chastising stars such as Alice Braga, Steve Agee, and Joel Kinnaman for spoiling the trailer's "planned" released schedule. The new Suicide Squad trailer has been released. There's a catch however--the trailer for James Gunn's highly-anticipated DC movie can only be found be found as an ad on YouTube.

For those lucky enough to catch the new Suicide Squad promo, you'll discover that it initially focuses on Idris Elba's Bloodsport, who is very reluctant to join the Suicide Squad, the team of criminals assembled for dangerous missions by government agent Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). The trailer then introduces us to the whole crew, before delivering a lot of quickly-cut one liners and over-the-top action. There's also an amazing shot of King Shark (Sylvester Stallone) riding the giant alien creature Starro and an amusing dig at Superman. While you'l have to hunt for the trailer, we can show you some new images from it--check them out below:

This is the latest of several recent Suicide Squad promos--there's also this hilarious red-band trailer from March and a very different one that arrived a few weeks later. The movie also stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag all of whom return from the 2016 Suicide Squad movie. New cast members include John Cena as Peacemaker, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Alice Braga as Sol Soria, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Michael Rooker as Savant, and Peter Capaldi as Thinker. It arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6.

There's also a spin-off show focusing on Peacemaker in the works at HBO Max. Gunn has written the entire series and it's currently set to premiere in January 2022. In April, Gunn revealed some of the influences on the show, which include Better Call Saul, the video game series Dance Dance Revolution, the band Def Leppard, and the 1970s Captain America TV movie.

Gunn is also set to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 movie for Marvel, which releases in May 2023, as well as a Guardians Holiday Special, which will hit Disney+ in late 2022.
