The Last Of Us Part II is a big sales success. Sony has announced that the PlayStation 4-exclusive sold more than 4 million copies during its first three days, surpassing the original game's sales during the same period.

Sony shared the sales number with GameSpot sister site CNET. The Last of Us Part II is now among the fastest-selling first-party PS4 games ever, surpassing the initial sales periods for God of War and Spider-Man. God of War, for example, sold 3.1 million copies in its first three days, while Spider-Man narrowly beat it with 3.3 million copies sold in its first three days.

Additionally, The Last of Us Part II's 4 million copies sold in its first three days beats the 2.7 million first-week sales of Naughty Dog's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End in 2016.

The takeaway here: The Last of Us Part II is a huge success in the market. With the game being such a strong success, many will be wondering if Naughty Dog will make a third game. Writer-director Neil Druckmann said the studio might make The Last of Us Part III, or something else; nothing is decided yet. For what it's worth, Naughty Dog hasn't made a new IP since 2013's The Last of Us.

In a statement shared on the PlayStation Blog, Druckmann said, "We are so immensely grateful to the millions of fans around the world that have played The Last of Us Part II and shared their experiences with us over the last week. We set out to tell a new kind of story, one that deals with difficult themes and would challenge you in unexpected ways. Hearing how the experience has resonated with so many of you and witnessing the type of thoughtful discussions it has sparked has been so incredible. We've also been so inspired by your creativity--whether it's your gorgeous Photo Mode shots, jaw-dropping gameplay GIFs, or the songs you've recorded using Ellie's guitar."

"The Last of Us Part II was made possible thanks to the efforts of the hundreds of talented and passionate developers here at Naughty Dog. We can imagine no greater honor than seeing that same passion mirrored by the people playing it. Thank you for helping us reach this amazing milestone."

Naughty Dog is seemingly unlikely to return to the Uncharted series, as the studio previously spoke about how it's finished with the franchise. That being said, Naughty Dog has said another studio could make Uncharted 5 with a new hero.

In addition to whatever game Naughty Dog makes next, Druckmann will also work on the HBO TV show based on The Last of Us. An Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg is also in the works.
