Last Day To Grab 2 Free Multiplayer Shooters (PlayStation Plus June 2020)

PlayStation Plus' June freebies kicked off early with Call of Duty: WWII, and a Star Wars game is now in the mix.

Breaking from longstanding tradition, the latest round of PlayStation Plus freebies began before the new month even arrived. PS4 users can currently claim June's free games, Call of Duty: WWII and Star Wars Battlefront II. This is one of the stronger monthly offerings we've seen this year. July's free PS Plus games have been announced which means the current offer won't be around much longer.

Developed by Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty: WWII released in 2017 and brought the series back to its original World War II-era setting for the first time since World at War in 2008. Call of Duty: WWII is particularly known for having a strong single-player campaign, which clocks in at around six hours. The online servers are still live, and while they aren't extremely active, you can expect the player count to tick up since far more people will have access to it on PS4.

In addition to the campaign and traditional multiplayer playlists, WWII also has a fun narrative-focused War mode with unique maps and lengthy attack/defend objectives. The strong package earned the first-person shooter a 9/10 in our Call of Duty: WWII review: "Ultimately, if every shooter set in the European Theater of World War II is measured by how it depicts its D-Day landing--assuming it has such a mission--Call of Duty: WWII emphatically succeeds in its impactful designs and delivery. The sensation of riding the troop carrier as it approached the beach filled me with depression more than dread, knowing I'd survive eventually while many of my surrounding brothers in arms wouldn't. While not equally emotional, this battle's reinterpretation in War mode proves to be a highlight in a superb suite of competitive modes," we wrote. If you're looking to jump in, check out our Call of Duty: WWII tips and tricks roundup for all of our guides.

Meanwhile, Star Wars Battlefront II has evolved to become a fairly solid multiplayer experience since launching back in 2017. It earned a 6/10 in GameSpot's Star Wars Battlefront II review. EA has offered consistent support since release, listening to fan feedback along the way. The game recently received its last major update, so if you're diving in for the first time, you'll experience Battlefront II in its final form. Battlefront II has a fun, if a tad underwhelming, campaign and a suite of multiplayer modes to enjoy online with friends.

Call of Duty: WWII and Battlefront II will be free through July 6. For more freebies, see our updated roundup of all the free games you can claim across PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile.

WW2, like all COD games, it's the same thing, the same maps with a new coat of paint. Might be worth playing if you don't have any of the other versions released in the last 15 or so years.

Battlefront is actually interesting, but it grows tiring quickly. It's fun to play with the Jedi and cut players in half. (Thou they don't actually get cut in half). Like all EA shooters, the R3 is overly sensitive, so watch out for melee while shooting if you have a heavy thumb.

I am enjoying the uptick in Battlefront players. Good month.

Last month was way better because of Cities: Skylines.

Those are just two generic, mediocre shooters that are hardly worth anybody's time (there are even better F2P options out there).

i guess i'm the one that's posting "meh" for once. i'd rather have interesting indie games than boring shooters.

the problem with "big titles" on ps+ is mostly that if i would want to play them i already have them. honestly though i'm not bothered at all by this, because even though i regularly add the ps+ games to my library, the last time i actually played one must be about 3 years ago.

Just the thing to relax and settle down with a violent game about shooting lol. Great game though but it would be hard to believe anybody doesn't already have this that has a PS4.

@deviltaz35: anybody that wants to play it probably has it. the free games are a nice feature, but in reality they don't often do much for me, exactly for that reason. i bought a new ds4 (controller) yesterday and the store gave away free copies of the last of us remastered with the controllers. it's a nice gesture, but i declined as i don't know anyone that has a ps4 and hasn't played that yet.

@RaveNRolla: True if it is a code though you can always sell it on Ebay easy enough. Physical you might not get enough to bother posting it lol.

Tried CoD WW2 over the weekend. Incredible graphics but I wasn't prepared for the poor performance. Constant micro-stutters inhibiting my already poor aim with a controller (usually play fps's on PC) and some outright pauses once in a while when there's a big explosion.

Can't believe they ship a game like that, and leave it like that all this time later. They should have reduced the gfx slightly to improve gameplay imo.

This was on a PS4 Pro and I didn't think until after I deleted it that maybe there was a way to prioritize frame-rate over resolution??

Battlefront 2? The loot Box system they introduced was the reason I didn't buy it. There was no way I wanted to give EA money for this gigantic rip off! Now that I can play it for free I can at least play the campaign since that was the only part of the game I was really interested in.

@amichalski81: Give it a try. There were a few massive balancing passes and gameplay redesigns half way into it's life cycle that drastically changed how the game played. If you're into MP you should definitely check it out again.

@brandxbeer: What else would you call it if it doesn't cost extra on top of PS+ charge? After all the title says "Playstation Plus Free Games" which makes it clear you need PS+ to get them.

Do you call out Amazon for their "Free" deliveries for Prime members?

Do you call out Pizza restaurants for not really giving away a free pizza with "Buy one get one free" offers?

@analgrin: do I really need to copy and paste the websters definition of free?? It should say "monthly Ps plus games"

If you have to pay a subscription to get something free, IT ISN'T FREE!!! That includes amazon. Its not that hard to comprehend. When you cancel ps plus do you get to still play those "free" games??????? Under your logic I watch free movies on Netflix every night as long as I pay my 15 bucks. Look at the epic games store for an example of free games if you're still confused at the term free.

@brandxbeer: it's a grey zone. the ps+ games are basically enticement. what people want and pay for is the ability to play online. since no one can tell what the "free" games will be two months from now the games themselves are arguably not the product, hence they are an addition. they are sort of free if you look at it that way.

@batusai4ever: what the **** are you talking about?? Paying for a subscription and getting games to play as long as you maintain your subscription isn't a free game. Pretty simple... But from the sounds of it, so are you.

But under your flat earth mentality I guess you probably think shows on Netflix are considered free too.... Moron

um they don't have to add the free games it just can be used to play online. giving extra is free. ps + is to play online not to give you free games every month. you forgetting the 360 at first did not give you free games it was just to play online then they added free games.

@brandxbeer: Well, you're really comparing apples to oranges here. With Netflix, what I'm paying for is a subscription to a service that provides movies and shows to watch, and not much else. With Playstation Plus I'm paying to enjoy games online with other people and my friends, not to get two games a month. The fact that Sony decides to sweeten the deal by including couple games isn't the sole purpose for my subscription. So, in my own opinion, I would say that the games are free. Though if you pay this subscription soley for these 'Free games', then yes they wouldn't be free. It's really just about perspective, and you've got a pretty negative one :l

I know this probably won't change your viewpoint, but whatever.

@cloakarius: do you get to play your "free" games after you unsubscribe? No you don't. Actually I love my ps4 pro and have a great perspective when it comes to it. My issue is with them using dishonest business models. If we were able to keep the games to enjoy if I cancelled my Ps plus account. Then I'd agree that they were free.

@brandxbeer: I feel that, but I also understand why it has to be that way. If you could play them without the subscription then someone could just buy the sub, download the games, then refund the sub (not sure if that’s actually a thing). I would personally find it cool if you hit a milestone with your account you would get to keep them (it would be better than getting an icon for a 3 year long subscription -.-). In the end yea I understand.
