Last Day For Nintendo's Huge Eshop Switch Sale: See The Best Deals Now

Snag The Witcher 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and more for way less.

The Nintendo Switch has a ton of great games on it in 2020, which can make choosing which ones to buy that much more difficult. Nintendo is making it a little easier (or maybe harder?) by having a huge sale on its Eshop store. The promo includes sales on all kinds of games for the Switch, like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition, Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition, What Remains of Edith Finch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and more. You can also check out sales from individual publishers, like Ubisoft, Capcom, and WB Games. Today is the last day for Nintendo's big New Year Eshop sales, so be sure to grab whatever you want today.

Thousands of people are checking out the masterpiece that is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the first time following the success of the Netflix Witcher series, and if you want to play it on Switch, you can snag the Complete edition for a nice discount right now. The Switch version is currently on sale for $42, which might be the cheapest we've seen the port since it released in October.

Some first-party Switch games feature in the sale as well, including Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Yoshi's Crafted World. All three of these games are excellent multiplayer options, and they're down to $42, which is about as low as first-party Switch games go.

The Nintendo Switch has been a great home for indie gems as well, and you can snag some of the best indie Switch games for even cheaper than usual right now. We especially recommend Celeste ($10), Gris ($8.49), Neo Cab ($15), Wargroove ($16), the Hotline Miami Collection ($12.49), and Sayonara Wild Hearts (9.09). It's also a great time to pick up Stardew Valley ($10) if you slept on it back in 2016, as the farming sim just received a huge update with tons of new content.

Various retailers, including Amazon and GameStop, are now price-matching some of the deals in Nintendo's New Year sale. There are even a few games on sale elsewhere that aren't marked down in the Eshop, like Baba is You. You can check out all the best digital game downloads on sale at Amazon and more.

The New Year Switch sale will be live until 11:59 PM PT on January 16 (and 2:59 PM ET on January 17). That means there's still time left take advantage of these deals, so check out our picks below and peruse the full offering of game discounts in the Eshop.

I disagree wish almost all the other comments here - this looks like a really huge sale. The issue is the starting price, not the % off. The discount is great - what people seem to actually be upset about is that 50% of 60 is a lot more than 50% of 30. Which, I agree, Nintendo is making quite a name for itself charging far more base price for the same game as it's competitors

@xantufrog: Except it isn't 50% off.

30% off a $60 game from two years ago isn't a good deal. That's what the standard price should start at after this much time has passed and any sale should knock the price down further.

As much fun as Mario Kart is, I'll stick to the Wii U version unless the Switch version falls under $30.

@xantufrog: Vaguely. Starting price is the problem, I agree. But you were wrong about the percentage off for the sale. It's 30%, not 50%. At least for their major first-party games.

Which is a decent sale, but also hardly fantastic. Even Steam's current sales, as mediocre as they are compared to what they once were, offer larger discounts on older games.

For me at least, Nintendo sales don't actually get me to buy games because the sales themselves are so mediocre. My Switch library is small and unlikely to grow, only grabbing two or three games a year. I use PC games to experiment with other genres of games and try branching out, because that's the only way to do so without blowing all my limited budget so Steam gets all my money.

@dancingcactus: 1) have you actually looked at the sale? Many of the items are 50% off.

2) I find it absurd to complain that a random non-black friday 30% off is "not enough". It's a sale. We aren't entitled to any % off and PS, Steam, GoG (my regular haunts) are typically in the 30-50% off range on their sales too, just like this. Anything more is practically a "doorbuster".

Whatever - to each their own.

I'm never impressed with their sales. $42 for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is pretty high considering how long that game has been out. It's base price shouldn't be $40. It's a rerelease of a game, has been out two years, and is still base price $59.99.

These Nintendo sales are absolutely horrible. They always are, unfortunately. This is pretty much why I only buy exclusives for my Switch, it makes no sense to buy a multiplat for $40 when it is like 10 bucks on Xbox/PS/ PC. Portability isn't worth that much of a difference in price.

@zander80: Yeah I have it on PS4 and I love it. My kid does too but plays on a Switch Lite more and I was wondering if it was worth it or if the graphics and resolution have been pared down and hitches in frame rate still exist

@girlusocrazy: Only if your kid plans to play it. I love Bloodstained (played PS4 version). I have a Switch, but I'm not getting the Switch version. I just get exclusives on Switch.

@Gohan921: lol, yeah. I bought the game plus both expansions for 8 bucks on Steam. On Switch, game costs more than 5x that. And that's when it's on sale.

RE0 and Mario Kart seems like a good deal maybe. RE4 already have, Okami HD also seems like a good deal, but never played before.
