Comments

Another new Legendary Pokemon has arrived in Pokemon Go. Zekrom, the cover monster from Pokemon White, is now available in Raid Battles around the world, making this your first chance to capture one in the mobile game. However, the Legendary will be leaving the game on July 7, so if you've yet to add one to your collection, we've rounded up some tips to help you battle and catch Zekrom below.

Zekrom Raid Hours

For the next few weeks, Zekrom will appear in Gyms as a five-star Raid boss. These Raids don't follow a set schedule and can occur at any time, but you'll receive a notification before one is about to begin nearby, so you shouldn't have much difficulty finding a Raid to join.

Niantic will also hold a Zekrom Raid Hour event every Wednesday evening until the Legendary leaves the game. During these specified hours, nearly every Gym will host a Zekrom Raid, giving you a much better chance to find the Pokemon. You can see the full Zekrom Raid Hour schedule below:

  • June 17 -- 6-7 PM local time
  • June 24 -- 6-7 PM local time
  • July 1 -- 6-7 PM local time

Thanks to Remote Raids Passes, you don't need to physically travel to a Gym to join a Zekrom Raid; the new items let you participate in any Raid that appears on your Nearby screen without leaving home. You can learn more about how to get and use Remote Raid Passes in our guide.

Zekrom Weaknesses And Counters

Like its counterpart Reshiram, Zekrom is part-Dragon, which makes it vulnerable to Ice, Fairy, and other Dragon Pokemon. Mamoswine, Weavile, and Glaceon are all good Ice types that will be very helpful when challenging Zekrom, while Granbull, Togekiss, and Gardevoir are reliable Fairy types to have. You can also bring along Dragonite, Salamence, and other Legendary Dragon Pokemon like Rayquaza, but they'll take super-effective damage back from Zekrom if it knows a Dragon-type attack.

In addition to its Dragon typing, Zekrom is also part-Electric, which gives it an additional weakness to Ground-type Pokemon. Groudon, Rhyperior, and Garchomp are some great Ground Pokemon to have on your team when facing the Legendary. However, you'll want to avoid using Flying or Water types when facing Zekrom, as they're especially weak to any Electric attacks it may know.
