Kong: Skull Island Box Office Tracking Suggests A Hit
Can Kong topple Logan?
Kong: Skull Island opens this weekend, and box office predictions are in. The movie looks set for a solid opening, despite heavy competition from the X-Men hit Logan.
According to Deadline, Skull Island is expected to gross $45 million-$50 million in the US over its first three days. This is an improvement over early tracking a month ago, which placed it closer to $40 million. The movie has received strong reviews, which will help its box office chances--check out GameSpot's review here.
Logan opened last weekend to record breaking numbers. It had the biggest ever March debut for an R-rated movie, making $85.3 million. It will present a strong challenge to Skull Island, and Deadline states that some analysts believe it could even retain the number one slot.
Beauty and the Beast opens on March 17, and it has been reported that it could set a new all-time record for a March release. This only gives Skull Island a week of potential box office dominance, before Disney's lavish musical takes the top slot.
Skull Island is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, and stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, and John C. Reilly. A new international poster was tweeted this week by Jackson--check it out below:
