The big news to come out of Konami's pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference today pertained to the Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders HD Collections, which will arrive for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this November and 2012, respectively. However, Konami VP and Kojima Productions head Hideo Kojima also offered a tease for his next project.

Kojima's Fox Engine is being tailored for multiplatform releases.
Kojima's Fox Engine is being tailored for multiplatform releases.

"We're still in the planning phase," Kojima said, noting that he will not be at this year's E3. "We're experimenting with some of the ideas we have, as well as researching, conducting interviews. From there, we take the necessary info we need and move forward. So when it comes to the title, the game system, or any kind of visuals, there's nothing I can really show you at this time."

However, Kojima did offer a look at the studio's all-new Fox Engine, which is being built for his next project. "Up until now, we have been developing games exclusively for specific platforms. But in the future, we look to go more global. And we are paving the road to go multiplatform for future titles. Of course, the dev tools are included, so hopefully, we can push out great games with shorter development times."

Kojima then offered a look at the Fox Engine, noting that the demo did not reflect his current title. The demo was set in a lush, tropical forest, overgrown with foliage. A large white horse stood saddled beside a man in camouflage garb, and what appeared to be a hunting dog was also nearby. With PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 controllers and a PC mouse before him, Kojima reemphasized that the engine was designed to accommodate multiple platforms.

The noted game designer said that he couldn't offer any more details on the project. However, he did note that his next game will use the Fox Engine, saying that it will be a multiplatform, Transfarring-enabled affair designed to appeal to a "global audience." Kojima also said that he plans to attend E3 2012.

Beyond his next project, Kojima briefly addressed Metal Gear Solid: Rising, which was announced for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2009. According to the designer, that game remains on track for release in 2012, as originally planned.

As one other interesting tidbit, Konami also confirmed during its pre-E3 press conference that Kojima will serve as a guest lecturer at the University of Southern California this fall. Kojima's talks will center upon game design.
