KOF giving Xbox Live one-two combo

The Xbox Live mantra may be the harmonic "It's Good to Play Together," but one publisher is taking that motto in a different direction. Apparently, it's also good to beat the heck out of each other over Xbox Live. SNK Playmore today announced two fighting games that will make their debut on the Xbox and Microsoft's broadband gaming service.

The King of Fighters Neowave and The King of Fighters '94 Re-Bout continue a full assault of King of Fighters titles on Microsoft's console. Both games will be released "during 2005."

"Xbox Live is the premiere online gaming network for fans of fighting games," said Ben Herman, SNK Playmore USA president. "We're going to bring our very best titles to the network and support them with national tournaments where the contestants can score valuable SNK prizes."

Neowave has already been battling in Japanese arcades and is expected to crack some cyberskulls on Japanese PlayStation 2s in June. '94 Re-Bout, a remake of King of Fighters '94, was released last year in Japan for the PS2. SNK has not announced any plans to bring the games to American PS2s.

The addition of Neowave and '94 Re-Bout to the Xbox library further cements SNK's strong push to make some retail headway with Xbox owners in the US. SNK has already announced that KOF: Maximum Impact – Maniax, the Metal Slug 4 & 5 combo pack, Samurai Shodown V, and King of Fighters 2002 & 2003 will all battle over Xbox Live this year.
