The Pokemon Company recently dropped a new trailer for Pokemon Sword and Shield. Not only did the video introduce a few new rival characters you'll be competing with in the upcoming Nintendo Switch titles, it gave us our first look at a brand-new Pokemon named Obstagoon, whose design immediately drew comparisons to Kiss singer Gene Simmons. Now the rockstar has shared his thoughts on the monster.

In a statement to Newsweek, Simmons said he was flattered by the new Pokemon. "Pokemon has been a part of our household for decades, ever since our kids first discovered them," Simmons said. "And to see Pokemon pay homage to Kiss, is flattering."

Obstagoon is a new, region-exclusive evolution of Galarian Linoone. The entire Galarian Zigzagoon line has drawn comparisons to Kiss due to their black and white fur and star patterns around their eyes, which resembles the makeup the band wears while performing.

Zigzagoon and Linoone aren't the only Pokemon receiving Galarian forms in Sword and Shield; The Pokemon Company also revealed the amazing Galarian Weezing, which has smokestacks that resemble top hats and mustache-like gas clouds around its faces. We also got a glimpse at a new hamster-like Pokemon named Morpeko, which can change between "full belly" and "hangry" forms.

Pokemon Sword and Shield launch for Nintendo Switch on November 15. You can check out all the new Gen 8 Pokemon revealed so far in our gallery. For more on the titles, be sure to read our Pokemon Sword and Shield release date and pre-order guide.

No love for Johto I guess. I think I'll stick to getting Kindred and Temtem for my monster taming needs now.

Almost Human

Nintendo musta cloned him, I cannot see a difference at all. Gene is naturally very animal-looking I believe.

After seeing Rock School back in the day on Channel 4, I have a lot of time for this Man.

I'm just trying to figure out why the article refers to Gene Simmons as a "singer", which, while accurate, is kinda pointless since every member of KISS has sung for the band at some point. He's more notable as the one and only bassist the band has ever had.

Unless Nintendo confirms I ain’t buying it

Looks more like Ace than Gene

Lick his tung

Lick his tung

The bottom posters want to lick his tung

ooh Yeah

Are you sure it was Gene Simmons who said that? He's not known for letting anyone use something even remotely part of the bands likeness without getting paid first. The guy is 100% business 100% of the time.

He said Pokemon is played in his household. So maybe (full on speculation mode) he rather has a KISS-style Pokemon in it because that's a real fun surprise for his family, rather than Nintendo changing/taking out the Pokemon to save money.

Because I could see Nintendo just take it out if he has a problem with it.

I don't see but I'm shocked he isn't suing.

Avatar image for justinitiative

@Solaryellow: I mean, I suppose; but what does he care? KISS doesn't tour anymore, and they have already made millions on advertising. I suppose it's also because he comes from an era where people didn't just sue each other at the drop of a hat; so it's refreshing to see this type of attitude from someone so big in the music industry.

Avatar image for Solaryellow

@justinitiative: KISS doesn't tour anymore? Ya sure about that one? KISS has sued many a people and WON.

Avatar image for bdrtfm

@Solaryellow: They're on their "End of the line" tour which is supposed to be their last one. About time. I like KISS but all the member changes was getting annoying. Especially with Simmons constantly bashing Frehely and Criss.

Road = Line.

If you told me 23 years ago (Alive/Worldwide tour) this is how the band would finish (I'm not even sure I believe it) I'd say no way.

Avatar image for bdrtfm

@justinitiative: You obviously don't know Gene Simmons. The guy is a walking lawsuit. The fact that people are saying this is his likeness and he's not looking for a payout is nothing short of mind boggling. If there is a penny to be made, he wants it, regardless of how much he's worth. Think Mr. Krabs on steroids.

@bdrtfm: No, I don't personally know Gene Simmons. The only notable event that I know about is the issue he had with King Diamond, and the suit filed against him for assault.

Avatar image for NaturallyEvil

@justinitiative: lol, I didn't know he got in a fight with King Diamond. Before I look it up, I'll take a guess at what happened...

King Diamond was originally employed as an assassin, and he had to begin painting his face and take singing lessons because of a mission requiring him to pose as a member of Kiss and kill them backstage. Shamed out of the murder business when he couldn't get through Gene's spiky costume to damage him, he continued singing as the identity he created for the mission, and left his original identity behind forever.

I thought they meant Slash for a second, but I can see Gene Simmons.

Avatar image for stage4saiyan

@doa2169: Slash? Kiss? What?

Avatar image for doa2169

@stage4saiyan: I was confused for a second and thought they meant Slash. Like when they wrote Gene Simmons I thought Slash.
