Kingdom Hearts 3, the highly anticipated final title in the longrunning series, won't be visiting any worlds from the Final Fantasy series, according to co-director Tai Yasue.

In each Kingdom Hearts game, protagonist Sora and his friend visit worlds based on popular Disney films and franchises. These worlds each have their own unique challenges and boss fights, and in the past have included characters and settings from everything from old Disney cartoons to The Little Mermaid and The Nightmare Before Christmas, to the first Pirates of the Caribbean and Tron films. But developer Square Enix has no plans to add worlds from the Final Fantasy series, despite the game featuring many of the franchise's characters.

"We're not adding any Final Fantasy worlds. A lot of the original [to Kingdom Hearts] worlds [Hollow Bastion, Traverse Town, e.t.c.] had Final Fantasy characters in them. At this moment, we are not really coming up with any plans for that, we're making original worlds and Disney worlds."

According to Yasue, worlds to include Kingdom Hearts games are chosen based on gameplay ideas they want to implement, they try to see which Disney World bets fits this style of gameplay. "The best thing would be to have Disney Worlds every recognize and are famous, but that are also distinct and unique," Yasue added. "We want the difference and variety, we don't' want a lot of the same thing."
