Flying Lab Software has today announced that Oscar-nominated sound designer Richard King has agreed to work on its upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Pirates of the Burning Sea. King was recently nominated for an Academy Award in sound editing for the movie Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and his previous credits include such movies as Twister, Gattaca, Magnolia, Unbreakable, and Signs.

"By employing the latest graphic technologies available, our game already looks terrific," said Russell Williams, cofounder of Flying Lab. "But a complete experience means great, realistic sound. Richard's work is of the very highest quality and is a perfect fit with our visually stunning ocean adventure that is going to blow PC players away."

"I'm a sailor myself, and working on Master and Commander left me wanting to do even more with ships at sea," added King. "I've never done a computer game before, but after Flying Lab showed me footage of what they were up to, I knew I wanted to be involved."

Set in the year 1720, Pirates of the Burning Sea will see players assuming the roles of naval captains, merchants, and pirates at a time when Spain, England, and France are vying for control of the valuable Caribbean islands. The game is currently scheduled for release toward the end of this year through Valve Software's Steam online distribution system.
