"We're focusing on keeping the series staple of being fast-paced while also adding elements to make it more exciting," Ogura said. "We're able to do things now for both sound and visuals that were impossible back when [we] were developing XIV."

Ogura also mentioned that the development team is "brushing up features and optimizing the game" ahead of its launch. King of Fighters XV was first announced at EVO 2019 and was then received a brief teaser back in December, with Ogura revealing at the time that King of Fighters XIV newcomer Shun'ei would be the franchise's latest protagonist. To add to his upgraded status within the franchise, Shun'ei has received a new outfit and his moveset has been overhauled.

2016's King of Fighters XIV is also getting an ultimate edition release on PS4, which includes the base game, 8 DLC characters, 10 DLC costumes, and 10 PS4 themes.

In more SNK fighting game news, the developer and publisher has also revealed plans to introduce a few brand-new characters in Samurai Shodown via the Season Pass 3 package, which includes the previously teased guest character from the company's Neo Geo classic fighter The Last Blade.
