SNK representatives confirmed to GameSpot today that it is bringing King of Fighters 2002 to the Xbox. The news comes after a product page for the title appeared on EB Games' online store over the weekend. SNK also confirmed that the October 12, 2004, release date, as listed by EB, was accurate.

King of Fighters 2002 is the ninth installment in the franchise, which started in 1994 and was originally released in arcades and for the NeoGeo. Its release will mark the first time a KOF game has appeared on the Xbox, although the two-game compilation King of Fighters 2000/2001 was released for the PlayStation 2 last December. GameSpot will have more information on this game as it becomes available.
