Now Playing: Red Dead Redemption 2 - RDR Full Story And Character Recap

Update: In addition to the original offer from GameStop, this deal is also available at Amazon (just add both items to your cart to see the discount), Newegg, and the Microsoft Store. It's arguably become even more tantalizing now, as a technical analysis shows that the game looks and runs best on Xbox One X. The original story follows.

Any game as big as Red Dead Redemption 2 is probably going to be a system-seller--and if you've read or watched our Red Dead Redemption 2 review, you know why. There is a nice new deal for the Xbox One family of systems to consider if you're thinking about picking up Rockstar's open-world western. If you're in the market for an Xbox One S or Xbox One X, you can save $100 if you buy Red Dead Redemption 2 from GameStop between now and November 3.

That's a killer deal for anyone who's looking to buy a new Xbox One and RDR 2 anyway. If you need help choosing between the two console models, you can check out our Xbox One S and Xbox One X reviews to get the full rundown on what features each one includes. We've also done an in-depth comparison of the models.

It's also worth noting that Red Dead Redemption 2 is an Xbox One X-enhanced game, meaning it runs in 4K and supports HDR when played on an Xbox One X connected to a TV with the corresponding features. (The S also supports HDR, but not native 4K--it's confusing).

As for the new game, it's a prequel to the 2010 original and takes place in 1899 and finds the Van der Linde gang on a crime spree in the Old West. You play as a man named Arthur Morgan this time around, though the previous game's protagonist, John Marston, also makes an appearance.

You can check out our Red Dead Redemption story recap to get yourself up to speed from a narrative perspective. And if you're ready to place your order, we have everything you need to know about what comes in each edition and how much it costs in our Red Dead Redemption 2 buying guide.

I ordered an XB1X and RDR2 bundle from GameStop Friday (with the $100 discount) and paid for UPS Next Day Air and still haven't received it. In fact the UPS tracking says they haven't even received it yet. To top it all off, despite me ordering it as a bundle the game and console are being shipped separately, and while the game is showing UPS Next Day Air the Xbox is showing UPS Ground. GameStop is saying both should be delivered by tomorrow, but I have serious doubts.

If I didn't have a PC with a 1080ti I would have purchased an Xbox One X. Instead I got a PS4 Pro because of the Exclusives. I also missed out on the PS3 so there are plenty of remasters to play on the PS4 Pro.

Most games on the Xbox are on PC or PS4 so I see no point in getting one.

This deal also works with the trade in deal as well. Get $200 for trading in your Orignal xbox one ( more if you have the S) which in turn adds up to $300 dollars off on a Xbox one x.

Going to gamestop later today after to pick one up finally. Cant pass up this type of deal.

Trade in an original Xbox One and get $200 of an Xbox One X at Gamespot, that's possibly $300 off.

@Fuhrer_D: Was wondering if this was possible. Seriously tempting.

@Rainier2:
Yup it works, confirmed today, and you can buy the digital copy.

@Fuhrer_D: My cousin is asking about this exact same deal; he's tight on cash but wants the X upgrade before the Holiday break.

Do you just show up in-store with your current XO factory-reset, w/controllers and cables and $200+tax?

Is it a new XOX, or refurbished?

@Pyrosa: (addendum) Heck, at that price I might as well swap out the wife's XO Elite.

@Pyrosa: UPDATE.... aaaaaaand, they're gone!!

You can still bundle the trade-in and RDR2 at GS, and get the X at a nice discount, but call the store first RIGHT before you go in. The $200 is tied to specific SKUs they want to clear out from the Summer. I still opted to do it, getting $125 for the XO and net -$40 for a free RDR2, so $165 off upgrading the wife's XO.

My cousin went in right away, and got the full deal... at the 2nd GS he took his XO into. Net -$240

Very tempted to get an Xbox One X with this deal, but I need a 4K monitor for my office to make good use of it. Why are 4K monitors so much more expensive than their 55in counterparts?? I would just get one of those if I had the space.

@lionheartssj1: Answer is volume production for CE devices is way higher, so that drives prices down in the CE retail space. I mean, nothing wrong with using a small ~47" 4K+HDR TV on a desk, if it has a high refresh rate and low response rate. Viewing angle from a chair across a desk is perfect around that size.

OR...

You can use it w/current monitor @1080p for awhile, and then follow MicroCenter for Cyber Monday deals.

@Pyrosa: Good insight, Pyrosa, thanks. I don't know if I could squeeze a 47", or even a 40", in the spot I have. May have to watch MicroCenter or Monoprice next month.

@lionheartssj1: With HDR would be better
