Iron Galaxy announced an update for the Killer Instinct fighting game for later this year. This new update is to celebrate the game's 10th anniversary.

Over on Twitter, Iron Galaxy explained some of the features that'll come with the update, including a balance update, improved matchmaking, and 4K support for Xbox Series X|S. No release date was revealed, but the studio said more information would come soon.

Killer Instinct launched in November 2013 for Xbox One and PC as a reboot of the original 1994 arcade game. While Rare created the original, Double Helix Games developed the reboot. However, when the latter was acquired by Amazon in 2014, Iron Galaxy Studios took over post-launch content development.

There's a 1996 sequel called Killer Instinct 2, but there have been no announcements or hints to follow up with a new entry to the 2013 reboot. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said that Xbox wants to bring Killer Instinct back but needs the right team and the right opportunity to appear.

In GameSpot's Killer Instinct review, we said, "Killer Instinct successfully updates the '90s classic into a finely tuned, competitive fighter that can stand alongside the genre's regulars."
