Kid Icarus Uprising Impressions

It's been a long time since Pit was given an adventure of his own, but no one could have anticipated that his triumphant return would make this much noise. He is the star of one of the showcase games for the Nintendo 3DS, and even though the demo wasn't playable, it was exciting to see the angelic hero back in action, and the visuals were amazing.

The demo in Nintendo's booth was similar to what it showed at its press conferences, but all of the scenes had been expanded to show off more of the action. The flying looks similar to what you would find in Nights, focusing on the freeing feeling of being airborne. But what was particularly impressive were the objects and enemies that popped off the screen. The 3D effect is well done, making certain things really stand out without being overbearing. It looks like it will be a lot of fun to gun down enemies with the cloud drifting in your face.

There are ground sections as well. Here, Pit ran through a city while shooting a cannon and arrows at enemies. Everything once again looked really sharp in 3D, with a lot of detail in the environment that made everything look really inviting. The demo ended with a boss fight against a flaming Cerberus. Pit strafed around the mythical beast while pelting it with his arrow, and it looked like a thrilling sequence.

The only disappointment was that Kid Icarus: Uprising wasn't playable. We're as anxious as you are to play it, so stay tuned to GameSpot for any future updates.
