Kane & Lynch catch PS3 in Crossfire

Two Eidos titles now coming to Sony's console; former set for "pre-Christmas" multiplatform release, latter due in "early 2008."

Today in the UK, SCi Entertainment laid out a new strategy. In a note sent to the London Stock Exchange, the previously PlayStation 3-adverse publisher said that it will attempt to launch games "simultaneously on all platforms." According to a US rep for SCi subsidiary Eidos Interactive, the move is so that the company will "benefit from the long term revenue potential, versus shipping different platforms on different occasions."

"Aw, man! You know this is going to start a fanboy flamewar!"

To that end, SCi--which publishes games in North America under the Eidos imprint--is now bringing two of its upcoming titles to the PS3. The first is the third-person shooter Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, from the Hitman makers at Io Interactive. Previously announced for the PC and Xbox 360, the game will now also arrive on the PS3, with all three editions set for a simultaneous "pre-Christmas 2007" launch in the US and Europe.

Another Eidos PC and Xbox 360 title, Crossfire, will also now ship for the PS3. Due in "early 2008" in the US and UK, the first-person shooter is being developed by Pivotal Games (Conflict: Global Terror), and will center on a pair of government agents on a mission in enemy territory. Like in Kane & Lynch, co-op gameplay will play a prominent role.

I think the big developers sony and microsoft should make cross platform games so xbox 360 owners can play against ps3 owners and pc owners. it would be so much better that way cause then u can own the console of your choice yet compete against any of the others. I mean there already making games playable between pc and xbox 360, not many at moment I know but if more game developers showed interest imagine what they could do, and most games come out on all platforms anyway. And all the platforms are so close to PCs now anyhow. so it it possible if they put there heads to it.

This is great news for the PlayStation 3. Having a commitment for simultaneous releases on all forthcoming titles will bolster its paltry game library. And for the record, I do think that multiplatform releases are a good thing on the whole. More importantly, I think that with a more even market share between the big three, multiplatform titles will be the way of the future.

Multi platforming is both a curse and a god send. The good is that you get more games for you're platform. The bad is that optimization for each platform is severely reduced. So I am not sure what i feel about it. But the first argument is probably more plus than the bad argument is, I guess...

So did I. This is no surprise because I think most people already thought this game was a multiplatform title. This is the first I ever heard of Crossfire being announced. _______________________________________________________ chinchilla16 oh i thought kane & lynch was already coming to PS3 not suprising news then.

I don't know where it's being developed. I meant the story/setting is Asian. And all i was saying is that the developers could've brainstormed for awhile and created a unique weapon rather than stealing gow's "dual chained blades" but w/e. idc really, i'm sure it will be fine. but still gow3 ftw

And so we begin a battle Malmeid2!:D Considering I never really played God of War *Don't shank me!*, this will be a pretty new exp. to me. The pics are different from the first trailer shown at E3.-Not as good as Gears I imagine *In graphics*, but the graphics are still there. I thought HS was coming from Europe? :o And even if it did come from Asia somewhere...what's the bad thing about it? I didn't see much wrong with the game except the lack of clothing on her.

Heavenly Sword is just an Asian based rip-off of god of war with people in place of monsters. Have you even looked at the pics? I'd much rather see gow3 on PS3 than HS.

incredibilistic It basically goes without saying that, now more than ever, first-party titles will define this generation. This was evident when GTA decided to not have MS wait six months for their version of the game while Sony enjoyed the spoils. How many articles do we have to read about the rising costs of development before we realize that most third-party companies will not hold their game to one system? This is why I think the Wii won't really stand the test of time. It's no secret that it doesn't hold a candle to its competition and I don't believe that many third-party companies will invest in making a game they know is ONLY playable on one console. You can't even really port a Wii title to the PC and no self-respecting developer would bother. Why? Totally different user base and unless someone creates a Wii-mote and sensor bar for the PC I don't see any Wii to PC ports on the horizon. There's already rumors of FFXIII appearing on the 360 bringing us closer and closer to a unified box that plays everything. The question is: who will be that ultimate set top box? When we're all playing just one console you can thank the third-party developers for blurring the lines. If a game looks and plays the same on both systems what makes one special over the other? Luckily there's still enough to separate them now (Blu-Ray, XBL, etc) but will there be enough differences come PS5 and Xbox 363? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't forget that game developers will ALWAYS develop for one console and "do the best they can" to port it to the other consoles in question. That means that games will never be exactly the same, but rather they will be slightly better on the console they were developed for from the ground up. This will probably be more evident when the games launch simultaneously rather than staggered launches. Anyways, you also have to look at which console is therefore easier to develop for *cough*Xb-x*cough* and that is where you will usually get the better copy of the game from 3rd parties (and if not better, it will be "the same" but never worse). It is something to consider when talking about 3rd party development.

ADDENDUM: When I said that the Wii doesn't hold a candle to the competition I was referring to the graphics. The system in its own right is great and is selling tons more than either system (it's selling faster than 360 sold when it debuted). I just don't see it trumping either system over time with it's last generation graphics.

Who cares? "See (exclusive titles) are like bullets, and if you take away (exclusive titles)" then all you fan boys dont have any ammunition to fire back at each other about which system is better. And concerning the delay of good games, well, these things take time, and maybe some of you can actually step outside this summer and get some sunlight and do some physical activities.

Olberto said: "Oh yes mazt0chief, you are sooooo right, it is the end of the wii's "little stint". RIP wii "sniffle" Just how did you figure that a console that has surpassed all the doubters and haters expectations in terms of sales will die because it cannot port Rainbow Six or Gears of War. If a system is installed in enough homes then developers will make games for it. The Wii will play host to a multitude of exclusives of its own despite its lack of power because it inspires developers to think outside the box, not just make another military shooter." Don't get me wrong, the death of Wii is not a good thing, as I stated in my original post. My claim is backed up by the fact that gamers want online games, gamers want good graphics, gamers want good AI, and most gamers want long games with replay value (contrary to what the Nintendo President says). I was rooting for the Revolution as much as anyone, but Nintendo messed something up along the way, and once the nostalgia factor of Zelda(which is also out for Gamecube) with a motion sensitive controller wears off, a lot of those impulse buyers will drop the console. This is also backed up by the fact that the majority of Wii games released thus far have gotten bad ratings because of horrible controls. Nintendo was onto something with all of this, but they dropped the ball early on in the game, they need to start capitalizing on their innovation before more people start dropping the console saying it's "gimmicky". If Nintendo drops out of the race, which very well could happen regardless of how many systems they have sold, the industry as a whole will suffer.
