We may soon be hearing about the long-awaited follow-up to 2010 open-world game Just Cause 2, as a newly registered domain name for Just Cause 3 has been discovered.

The domain, JustCause3Game.com, was registered on Tuesday by CSC Corporate Domains, a company used by Square Enix and other companies to register URLs in the past. It was found by Internet sleuth Superannuation, who suggests we may see the game at E3 in June.

Of course, Just Cause 4 domains registered in 2012 were indicative of nothing, although Avalanche did release some blurry teaser images (you can see one below) of what appeared to be a new Just Cause game last February.

A new game in the Just Cause series has yet to be announced. In December, developer Avalanche Studios' creative director, Christofer Sundberg, claimed it was too early to start talking about Just Cause 3. "We have been discussing what we'd like to do with the Just Cause IP in the future, but it's too early to talk about it just yet," he said.

No Caption Provided

Just prior to that declaration, Avalanche revealed its employees had visited a Costa Rican rainforest to collect reference materials for its upcoming open-world games, suggesting that could be a setting seen in Just Cause 3.

While he's been averse to say much about a Just Cause sequel, Sundberg has been outspoken about the industry, which could clue us in on the developer's approach to Just Cause 3.

"Micro-transactions, subscriptions, and other biz models will be the next generation of games. It is that simple," he said on Twitter last year. He later expanded on the thought, stating that "greed never works."

"We'll never compromise on quality or sell our souls for a quick buck," Sundberg added. "Things are changing and we need to adapt."

Sundberg has also expressed concern over the AAA game market, saying earlier this year, "Very few traditional $60 games make any money, and what used to make sense doesn't any more."

What all of that means for Just Cause 3, if anything, is unclear.

One of Avalanche's in-development projects, Project Mamba, which is believed to be Just Cause 3, is known to be coming to next-generation consoles and PC and was previously said to be launching in 2014.

Please give mod tools this time. Just Cause begs for good mods!

And please stop the microtransaction crap. It destroys gaming.

I've never played Just Cause...Was just looking at JC2 gameplay videos on Youtube and I don't get it. It looks like non ending grappling onto walls and going on a shooting spree with no regards for cover, ammo or anything else...dialogue sounds cheesy and forced...what's so good about this game? What am I missing? Thought this sort of games was only popular in the 90s...

<< LINK REMOVED >> It was so popular because it's a throw back to the 90s. It's surprisingly tough as well, the AI was difficult to beat, which made it even more enjoyable. Missions were really good, lots of bases to (try) take over, Planes, bikes, cars...It honestly had everything. A new gen version with destructible environments and better mechanics would be something special.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Maybe I just watched the wrong video then, because that dude made the game a borefest. Oh, a cloud of enemies? OK! *Proceeds to jump to ground level in front of 15 enemies and squeeze the mouse button without moving an inch until they're all dead*

@korvus @ddmartin2014 I guess you could play it that way, but it's the fun little toys they threw in that made it interesting. Sure, you're shooting guys, but it's way more fun to attach them to a gas cannister and launch it into the air.

Just Cause 2 was a immensely fun sandbox to fool around in - if Mr. Sundberg thinks that instead of "just selling the 60 EUR game" is not making them enough money and they're going to try other "AAA publisher" fail attempts (tons of DLC, microtransactions, seasons passes for unannounced content, etc.) then one thing is absolutely sure - I'll be making sure to pick up the GOTY edition in a sale a few years after release instead or not at all, which in turn makes them even less money.

Perhaps one day they'll understand that all gamers want is to hassle-free buy a complete product to enjoy whenever they want and then perhaps a year after release simply buy a big addon pack.

Also mod support, editors and openness by the developers go a long way to increase the longevity of a game and the satisfaction of customers that will come back to buy future products.

The market didn't change all that much, it's just that he thinks it did because a few idiots in suits are making such a fuss about it - the flip side of that coin, which is rarely mentioned is that customers are getting really pissed off by that model EA, UbiSoft and others are going with.

If he plans to turn Just Cause 3 into a microtransaction / social integration / multiplayer focused experience then he should immediately leave this company before he ruins it.

Just Cause 2 was overrated. Don't get me wrong, it was a heck of a lot of fun, but people give it more praise than it deserved.

Just Cause 2 was FAR better than I ever thought it could have been, providing fun on a most ridiculous scale. True, solid gaming fun, sandbox style, like when I popped on GTA3 for the first time. If there's a third on the way, sign me up!

Bought Just Cause 2 on day one.
Plan on doing the same for Just Cause 3, but I'll be avoiding it completely if there's any sort of "micro-transactions, subscriptions, and other biz models" with it.

<< LINK REMOVED >> To be fair the public built a mod that puts thousands of players together and lots of thing like animations in certain events are very buggy, I'm sure JC3 will have your run of the mil MP but it won't have a thousands of players at once mode, it's just not going to work well on most machines and they would have to put up dedicated servers for a game that might not have a very popular MP aspect.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I would say definitely try it out. I never finished it but I did play it a lot, and it was fun. Actually the other day I went to try out the multiplayer again, and there are a lot more things going on now. People have modded the servers with things like roleplaying and even construction systems for placing objects and buildings, creating your own locations.

I agree with him. Within the past 3 years there has been many triple A games to come out and I can honestly name 6 there were Worth my 60 dollars

(1) Halo 4

(2) Elder scrolls Skyrim

(3) Mass Effect 3

(4) Borderlands 2

(5) Dead Space 3

(6)Rage

Other games, not so Much. maybe others I just cant think off right now.

The Doom IP is gone, I haven't ever seen an IP that is no longer developed by the original team ever be any good.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Sleeping Dogs was fantastic, even though it's been as low as $5. Far Cry 3 was brilliant. AC4 was actually pretty good. Hitman: Absolution was good too. Tomb Raider? Civ V?

Your definition of "worth $60" is probably pretty unique, as is everyone's & I didn't necessarily pay full price for all those titles, but there have been good AAA games.

I would disagree with Rage too. Having watched a friend play some of it, I couldn't put up with those texture load times in a so called AAA game.

I look forward to it, though I would like to see them maybe tone down on the world size a bit. A big world is great and all, but when it's filled with a lot of nothing much to look at it kind of makes travelling a chore. It's definitely one of my favourite sandbox games, and I'd love to see the grappeling hook make a return. It's the only game where you can go 'I'll hook a jumbo jet to a regular jet and let it drop down because why not?'
