3DO today announced the beginning of the next phase of beta testing for its upcoming massively multiplayer online space simulation, JumpGate: The Reconstruction Initiative. The company is accepting a new round of testers for this test, which it expects to last approximately three weeks. Players interested in participating in the test can apply at the game's official beta test sign-up page.

JumpGate is set in a persistent futuristic online universe. Players control one of several types of spacecraft, and they can engage in mining, trade, and battles with thousands of other players. In addition, players will be able to work alone or as part of a squad, and they can customize their spacecraft with upgraded weapons, engines, armor, and other features.

JumpGate is in development at Colorado-based NetDevil, and it is scheduled for release near the end of the year. For more information, take a look at our in-depth preview of the game.
