Jumanji 3: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Announces Work Has Begun (And That One Character Will Die)

"The heart in our story is our anchor."

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson makes a lot of movies, and while last year's Baywatch was a commercial disappointment, he's still had some big hits over the last 12 months. The biggest of the lot was Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, a pseudo-reboot of the classic '90s comedy adventure, which stands as Johnson's most successful movie ever. Unsurprisingly, a sequel is on the way, and the actor has now confirmed that work has started on it.

Johnson likes to keep fans updated on his many projects on Instagram, where he posted a new message about Jumanji 3. He revealed that writer/director Jake Kasdan will be returning for the film and that Kasdan had delivered a "dynamite pitch" for its story. In addition, Johnson stated--perhaps jokingly--that co-star Kevin Hart "dies in the first 15 seconds of the movie." Check the post out below:

Johnson's post also suggests that he will be joined by his other co-stars Karen Gillian, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas, although they are yet to be officially announced. The movie does have a release date however--it's due to hit theaters in December 2019.

In related news, Johnson's latest movie, Skyscraper, hits theaters next month. The action thriller sees the star play a former US Marine who now assesses security for skyscrapers and inevitably finds himself up against a terrorist gang who have taken over the most advanced building in the world. Check out the latest Skyscraper trailer here.

@Paulf001: Yes. New Jumanji made a lot of money. I pirated it. It's actually really good. All the actors brought their A game. Jack Black in particular.

I at least feel it's a worthy successor to Jumanji.

@watercrack445: Other way round. The way the videogame Jumanji works is that people are sucked in to play the character roles. As such game over means you die, not the character.

Look at it like this. If you game over in Mario, does he die and get replaced by another character? No. You just start over as Mario. No matter who is playing, they are always controlling Mario.

Jumanji 3. Not a very logical title.

Here's a list of the movies in the Jumanji franchise, so far:

1st movie: Jumanji (1995)

2nd movie:Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005)

This movie had Jumanji 2 as a working title. It's based on the children's book Zathura, from the same author as Jumanji, which was a sequel to the Jumanji novel.

3rd movie:Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)

As you can clearly see, we've already had three movies so far in the franchise.

Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson is like the Kardashians... he will go away if we stop acknowledging his existence. If we don't, he will keep showing up in established franchises and ruin them.

Anyone knows if there was a good reason for the revealing custome of Karen Gillan? Not that I mind the eye candy, more like the hilarity of the justification.

@razor_rj: That was the point. His character was a teenage prissy queen bee stuck in a middle aged mans body. To Jack Blacks credit, he f***in nailed that role.
