Jonah Hill May Play Villain In The Batman Movie - Report

The Batman is in theaters in 2021.

The Joker may be heading to theaters soon, but The Batman isn't too far behind. While filming on the movie from War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves doesn't start for some time, casting is underway. It's already been reported that Westworld star Jeffrey Wright is in talks to play Commissioner James Gordon in the film, which will see Robert Pattinson star as Batman, and now another interesting name is being touted as a potential cast addition.

Multiple outlets, including The Hollywood Reporter, Collider, and Deadline, are reporting that Jonah Hill is in talks to join the film as a villain. What's less clear is who that villain is. According to Collider, the Maniac star is looking to play The Riddler. However, THR claims that no character has actually been chosen for Hill yet, with Riddler and The Penguin being the two possibilities.

THR's report cites sources that say negotiations are at an early stage between Hill and Warner Bros., with the two sides still undecided on which role he would take. It's noted that the film is set to feature "many" of the villains Batman fans recognize.

If he does sign on, The Batman will mark the first time Hill has appeared in a comic book movie. He does have some experience with the DC Universe, though. He voiced Green Lantern in The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie, and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021. Before then, DC has a few movies up its sleeve. The Joker arrives on October 4, with Birds of Prey arrives on February 7 of next year. Wonder Woman 1984 is out on June 5, 2020.

Penguin. Jonah Hill looks like the classic version of the penguin. Which I think is too bad because (a) I think the version of the penguin in Gotham is my favorite take on the character and going back to the "classic" seems like it'd be a step backwards. (b) Hill is a good actor. It would be nice to allow him to play a villain we maybe haven't already seen a million times before. Make the role his own.

Jonah Hill, while obviously known to most people for comedy, has some serious dramatic chops and is a fantastic actor. Much like Robert Pattinson, while STILL being only pointed out for Twilight in most comment sections (this included), is a simply brilliant actor who has been reaping high praise for his fantastic work. The casting for this movie, while risky, keeps getting better and better, especially with Matt Reeves behind it. His Planet of the Apes movies were amazing, I have no doubts in him nailing the tone of Batman.

@Oloryn: What are you talking about snoop dogg? Put that cigarette away and stop smoking that crap is making you slow in the head. You can't seriously be real. That G.Y looking Robert Paterson and now Jonah hill? The cast is getting worse. I do like Jonah Hill but not for this movie, let him keep doing his 21 Jump street movie's and give the rolled to a better suited actor that can give the character justice and get rid of that Robert something.

@angrycreep: Everyone jumped on Heath Ledger for being that guy from that rom-com 10 Things I Hate About You playing the Joker, thinking he'd be terrible, and he ended up turning out one of the single best performances of all time. You can't judge an actor on one character, but on their talent. Hate the idea of it all you want, Pattinson is talented as hell, you likely haven't watched his other stuff. Jonah Hill is talented in drama if you've seen his full list of work. I stand by my thought that they're going to be great (assuming Hill officially joins), as do millions of dollars of studio money and a talented writer/director, and I firmly believe the proof will be in the final product. If I'm wrong, I still have Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight to watch, so it's no loss for me.

Honestly I hate every casting for every superhero but 90% of the time they knock it out of the park. so im just gonna keep my mouth shut and wait to see a trailer.

Ill always remember that awesome feeling when nobody was sure of Heath ledger as Joker. but then the movie came out and my jaw dropped. That first scene in the kitchen with mob was an awesome moment.

so Im hoping these odd casting choices give me that same feeling

@restatbonfire: Well the idea is not just to get someone who look like the character but to get someone who will play and give the character justice and Jonah Jill is not that person.

confidence is low after they cast the Twilight weirdo as Batman.

*Haven't had enough Batman origin stories & repetitive movie going through his rogue gallery!

Time for a Old Man Bat or Kingfdom Come or something epic..

This has Flop written all over it.(despite my liking Jonah)

@sippio: You mean the Twilight weirdo who has been in multiple award winning films that killed at some of the most renowned film festivals? Remember when they cast that dude from Moonlighting in Die Hard, or the dude from 10 Things I Hate About You as the Joker? Or maybe the dude who was in Not Another Teen Movie and Fantastic Four who later went on to play Captain America?

I agree that another origin story is not really necessary...but looking at Tom Holland Spider-Man one can see that there is some merit in a younger actor that leaves some room to tell longer lasting stories.

Not really sure what you mean by Old Man Bat but Kingdom Come, while awesome, is a showstopper. It's a story that tells the end of a Universe after which you can't really tell stories anymore. (at least with the characters the people care about)

Another thing that is missing to give weight to a story like Kingdom Come would be the legacy of the DC heroes that made this story so special. While most people have heard about the characters in that story, audiences, apart from comic readers, have still yet to see them build the bonds that make the falling out in Kingdom Come meaningful. This is a story that can be told years down the line when maybe the actors that will eventually make up the Justice League or Justice Society have aged out of their roles, but right now it would have the same effect as making a Batman vs. Superman movie as the start of a new franchise...and we all know how well that turned out.

Who's doing the hiring in here because this is getting worse and worse. First that ( G-Y ) Robert Paterson and now Jonah Hill, it can't get any worse than that. I think the next hiring will be Drew Carey to Play Two-Face

Ok now I definitely don't want to see this. All that is missing now is Seth Rogen or Ben Stiller...

@kstaggs87: then maybe he should do one of those silly villains that are only on screen for comedic purposes, you know like calendar man or dorito bandito
