Joker May Become The Highest-Grossing R-Rated Movie Ever (Not Adjusted For Inflation)
Joker continues to laugh up the charts.
The Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie is still riding high at the box office, and by the end of its theatrical run it might end up becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history--with a $1 billion total even possible.
After another strong performance at the box office in its third weekend, Joker has made more than $737 million worldwide. It needs about $48 million more to reach Deadpool 2's lifetime gross of $785 million that made it the highest-grossing R-rated movie in cinema history following its release last year.

As THR reminds us, Deadpool 2 made around $738 million globally from its initial run before the PG-13 re-release, Once Upon a Deadpool, helped total receipts reach $785 million.
THR says Joker is expected to make $900 million at the box office when all is said and done, and it could even reach $1 billion, some sources said.
Some of the other highest-grossing R-rated movies over the years have included 2003's The Matrix Reloaded ($742 million), 2017's Stephen King movie It ($700 million), 2014's American Sniper ($547 million), and 2004's The Passion of the Christ ($611 million). These figures are not, however, adjusted for inflation.
