Jojo Rabbit Movie Trailer Features Taika Waititi As A Kooky Adolf Hitler

Would you hang out with Waititi's Hitler?

Academy Award nominee Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) seems to be getting busier. While voicing a brand new Rick and Morty character and taking the Thor: Love and Thunder director/writer reigns, the New Zealand filmmaker is closing 2019 strong with the satirical dark comedy Jojo Rabbit, which finally has a trailer and release date.

Jojo Rabbit is slated to hit theatres on October 18. Waititi took to Twitter to post the teaser. The minute-long trailer shows a bunch of boy scouts doing very boy scout things: hammering sticks in the forest, jumping in a pool altogether, running with and away from Adolf Hitler. It's all in a day's work for the Hitler Youth in 1940s Vienna. You can check it out below.

Written and directed by Waititi, Jojo Rabbit is based on Christine Leunens' 2008 book Caging Skies, which follows a Jewish boy who discovers a Jewish girl hiding in a false wall of his parents' house. It stars Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones), Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect 3), Sam Rockwell (Vice), Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Endgame), Stephen Merchant (Logan), and Thomasin McKenzie (The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies). Along with leading the movie, Waititi plays a kooky Adolf Hitler.

In other news, Waititi's live-action Akira adaptation has been delayed due to "development concerns." A new release date has yet to be confirmed, but Waititi said in April 2018 that he has no intention of remaking the 1988 animated film. "A lot of the people freaking out haven't even read the books, and there are six gigantic books to go through. It's so rich."
