John Boyega Ranks The Star Wars Sequel Movies And Names The "Worst"

Actor John Boyega has shared his personal ranking for the Star Wars sequel movies, in which he played the ex-Stormtrooper Finn.

Boyega, who starred in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, was asked to rank the sequel movies from best to worst during a Q&A with First We Feast, while promoting his Netflix film They Cloned Tyrone. At first, it looked like Boyega wasn't going to answer, but the actor quickly said, "Hell yeah I'll do it," before sharing his favorite film out of the three and the "worst."

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens is most definitely the best," Boyega said. "Second, for me, comes Star Wars 9 [The Rise of Skywalker], and then the worst--in the most respectful sense--is Episode 8 [The Last Jedi]. But they're all lovely." The clip shows Boyega glancing to the side and smiling after saying this.

Back in 2020, following the release of 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, Boyega spoke out on the mishandling of his character in Star Wars and the Black experience in Hollywood. The film saw Finn and Kelly Marie Tran's character Rose Tico sidelined after being much more involved in the previous film, The Last Jedi.

"What I would say to Disney is do not bring out a Black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are, and then have them pushed to the side," Boyega said. "It's not good.

"Like, you guys knew what to do with Daisy Ridley, you knew what to do with Adam Driver. You knew what to do with these other people, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know f*** all. So what do you want me to say? What they want you to say is, 'I enjoyed being a part of it. It was a great experience...' Nah, nah, nah. I'll take that deal when it's a great experience. They gave all the nuance to Adam Driver, all the nuance to Daisy Ridley. Let's be honest. Daisy knows this. Adam knows this. Everybody knows. I’m not exposing anything."

During Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm announced three more Star Wars films including one that would see the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker 15 years after the events of Episode 9. Disney announced new release dates for each movie back in June.

It's unclear at this time if Boyega--or any other cast members of the sequel trilogy like Oscar Isaac and Kelly Marie Tran--will be returning to the franchise.
