So 2 joker movies being filmed at the same time with different actors? Good god DC films is just a mess right now.

Avatar image for MigGui

So basically the Joker's origin story begins when he's 50?

Avatar image for kaealy

@MigGui: He's pretty much ageless in the comics so why not?

Avatar image for datriax

Life of care-free abuse certainly hasn't done Phoenix any favours.

I was about to say, the joker was 55 before he went crazy? Then I looked up Phoenix's age, and discovered, he's actually 43. Yikes.

Looks like Bill Murray from Zombieland

I'm sure Joaquin's only doing this for the paycheck.

Avatar image for freeryu

@lionheartssj1: Sounds like a normal working human being.

Avatar image for mcnichoj

@lionheartssj1: I doubt he has to do anything for a paycheck.

Avatar image for lionheartssj1

@mcnichoj: True, but when thinking about this movie especially, I'm reminded of what another really good actor said about working a crappy movie.
"I have never seen it (Jaws 4) but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built and it is terrific." -Michael Caine

DC and their trademark

“no one wants this but here, take it”

Avatar image for tom_cat_01

I'm calling it now: he's not gonna get his make up until the last scene of the film

Avatar image for goodgamesguy

@tom_cat_01: Slow pan up to his makeuped face in the reflection of a broken mirror while he’s in a dark dingy bathroom somewhere. Roll Credits.

I'm actually optimistic about this, despite DC's horrible track record. I can see Phoenix going from an innocent to a horribly twisted character within the space of the movie. He's a good actor

Avatar image for kstaggs87

I’m optimistic, I think it’ll be good, but what I’m really hoping is that this will pave the way for the dark, gritty and brooding Batman movie we deserve

if anyone can play joker is this guy.damn I love him.

Avatar image for uninspiredcup

Just stop.

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide

@uninspiredcup: Yeah, hollywood is gonna stop because you said so. Hey guys, hold off on making those millions, some shortsighted nerd online said to stop.

Avatar image for uninspiredcup

@Bread_or_Decide: DCU is losing money.

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide

@uninspiredcup: Yeah, course correct, don't waste even more time recasting the whole thing.

Avatar image for alex33x

@Bread_or_Decide: They won't be making any huge millions, the movie will flop. DC has not and probably wont, get their act together unless they do a complete reboot of their cinematic universe.

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide

@alex33x: And you know this how? Joker is the most popular bad guy. The film looks like a serious take on the character. Batman’s villains are the biggest money maker for WB. The budget is cheap, this thing is poised for profit at decent box office levels. The chance to make serious bank is there if its a great film.

They don’t need a full reboot. Wonder woman works. Recast batman. Fix superman. Aqua man looks promising.

Avatar image for alex33x

@Bread_or_Decide: I smell a fanboy here, the movie will flop mark my words. Wonder Woman is not enough to save the DC cinematic universe. Even justice league with a $657 mil world wide box office was a box office bomb. After you take marketing and all the re-shoots, editing etc, they had to do in the end the studio ended up upside down.

Suicide squad was horrible, they were only able to turn a profit because of high expectations.

And suicide squad was still a flop regardless,

Man of steel was decent, not perfect but not bad, then batman v superman just ruined it. Justice league was even worst, and wonder woman cant carry an entire franchise.

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide

@alex33x: fanboy? Just a rational human being. Nothing more, nothing less. Again, the budget for this film is much less than the others. Smaller cast, only one big star, and not a big budget action film with a ton of sfx. He's also everyone's favorite bad guy. It's a wise investment on WB's part. With Batman in limbo it's a good choice.

@Bread_or_Decide: but Batfleck awesome

Avatar image for decadentdescent

@rikku45: No Assfleck is not.

Avatar image for john7281

May not have been great but was a HUGE step up from Bale as Batman. Going all the way back to Adam West's Batman, Bale has been hands down the worst, so it could only go up from there. So Batfleck while not great was good compared to the prior Batman actor.

Avatar image for MigGui

@john7281: You're probably the only person on earth that thinks Bale is the worst Batman and Affleck is in any way a superior version. I'd say not even Affleck's mom would agree.

Avatar image for poemann79

@MigGui: i second that Bale was worst batman ever. Hands down the worst ever.

Avatar image for mcnichoj

@rikku45: Awesome or not, he's already out.

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide

@rikku45: He really wasn't.

Avatar image for Poidad

@Bread_or_Decide: Bring back Michael Keaton!

Avatar image for nabinator

@rikku45: Batfleck was not

Avatar image for Hagan

Thought it was going to be Jack Napier, not Arthur Fleck.

I don't think I've ever seen Joaquin Phoenix so thin and gaunt looking.

I'm already calling the movie is going to following closely to The Killing Joke. As in its going to be about comedian down on his luck, anything that can go wrong will go wrong in his life and only during the very final moments of the film will he get the bleached face, red lips, green hair. Not saying that's a bad thing, but that's what I am expecting.

Avatar image for Judeuduarte

@Hagan: DC animated movies are awesome. If it follows the Killing Joke the potential is enormous

Avatar image for Blk_Mage_Ctype

I never thought I would ever feel disappointed to hear that an actor as talented as Joaquin Phoenix was chosen for the role of The Joker, but after seeing Tommy Wiseau's audition for the role, I honestly really wanted to see him get the part. I mean, if there was ever a role that he could seriously pull off, it was The Joker.

Avatar image for aross2004

@Blk_Mage_Ctype: That audition was horrible!

Just trying to rip off Heath Ledger's portrayal, and not even getting close.

And the voice was just not right.

No. Just no.

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide

@Blk_Mage_Ctype: I must seek out this thing.

Avatar image for mcnichoj

@Bread_or_Decide: Enjoy.
