In the immortal words of Public Enemy, "Don't believe the hype." For nearly two weeks, speculation has surrounded a semimysterious teaser on the Japanese Devil May Cry 4 site. The Web destination had sported a teaser animation counting down to today, when many speculated major new information about the highly anticipated but strangely elusive PlayStation 3 game would be unveiled.

Now, the countdown has ended. This morning, the Web site changed, revealing...the new Japanese Devil May Cry 4 site! Yes, fans of the Capcom hack-and-slasher can now revel in the glory of new pictures of series protagonists Dante and his twin brother Nero (aka Vergil)--and not much else. The bare-bones site has only placeholders for new screenshots, which it promises are coming on September 15. As recompense, it does boast several bits of concept art viewable via a Flash slide show.

While the countdown-teaser will likely be a disappointment to most, fans do have something to look forward to. According to Sony, Devil May Cry 4 will be playable on the show floor of the 2006 Tokyo Game Show later this month.
