Japan works out Wii Fit Check Channel
NEC, Hitachi, Panasonic team with Nintendo to offer employees personal health-care advice via best-selling fitness title.
While the jury remains split on whether Nintendo's best-selling Wii Fit can produce any real-world health benefits, a handful of Japanese companies are planning to integrate it into their corporate fitness plans. Nintendo announced today in Japan that it plans to collaborate with NEC, Hitachi, and Panasonic on a Wii Fit Check Channel, which will be available exclusively for the leading Japanese electronics companies in Japan come April.

The Wii Fit Check Channel will let Wii Fit users employed by the aforementioned companies upload their fitness data to an online server. They will then receive personalized advice from health-care personnel on ways to improve their fitness level. The Wii Fit Check Channel will also integrate data obtained from the pedometer-equipped Personal Trainer: Walking, which was released in Japan last year under the title Aruite Wakaru Sekatsu Rhythm DS.
Nintendo noted that the service is currently being hosted individually be NEC, Hitachi, and Panasonic. The publisher also noted that it hopes to open up the Wii Fit Check Channel to a broader Japanese audience at a later date. No mention was made of whether the channel would come online outside of the island nation, however.
