With FX's What We Do in the Shadows a proven success and heading into its third season, there's clearly room for more vampire comedies. Fortunately, more are on the way: Netflix has just announced early details on the upcoming Day Shift, a comedy Jamie Foxx will both star in and executive produce.

According to Variety, Foxx will play "a hard-working, blue-collar dad who wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted eight-year-old daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool-cleaning job is a front for his real source of income--hunting and killing vampires."

The script comes from Tyler Tice--with revisions and punch-ups from Shay Hatten (John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum)--and will be helmed by first-time director JJ Perry. Tice's script won the 2017 Slamdance Writing Competition Grand Prize, which reportedly helped get it noticed and scooped up to be made.

There's no release date yet or even an indication of when production might start, but a producing team that includes Chad Stahelski (John Wick) and Shaun Redick (Get Out).

Foxx's next upcoming release is Pixar's Soul, which comes to Disney+ on Christmas Day. You can read our review round-up of what critics thought of Soul here. Meanwhile, Foxx is supposedly still in play for the upcoming Spawn movie. He also is reportedly in talks to reprise his role as Spider-Man villain Electro in an upcoming and still untitled movie.
